In WoW Classic, lockpicking is a rogue-only skill. Learn Pick Lock at level 16 from any rogue trainer, then raise the skill from 1 to 300 by picking locked chests, doors, and junkboxes. Your maximum skill is capped at your character level × 5, so 300 is only reachable at level 60. Every point lets you open tougher locks and pickpocketed lockboxes.

How to level lockpicking 1-300

  1. Reach level 16 and train Pick Lock from your rogue trainer.
  2. Keep an eye on your cap: you can't out-level the skill, so grind it as you level normally.
  3. Gather junkboxes — Battered, Sturdy, Heavy, Strong, and Rich Junkbox tiers. They drop from humanoid mobs, can be pickpocketed off enemies, or bought cheaply on the Auction House.
  4. Open each box tier as soon as your skill is high enough; move up a tier when boxes stop giving skill-ups.
  5. Fill gaps by picking reusable locked doors. Doors don't consume anything, so you can attempt them repeatedly as your skill allows — great for grinding stubborn point ranges.

How do you learn lockpicking in WoW Classic?

Only rogues can learn it. At level 16, visit any rogue trainer in a major city and train the Pick Lock ability. There's no separate profession slot — it's a rogue class skill that levels through use, exactly like weapon skills.

Can non-rogues do lockpicking?

No. Warriors, mages, hunters and everyone else cannot pick locks at all. Non-rogues who need a locked box or chest opened must either find a rogue to open it or use a blacksmith-made key where one exists. That rogue-only access is a big part of why the skill is valuable.

What's the fastest way to grind lockpicking?

Buy or farm stacks of junkboxes matched to your current skill window, and pick reusable doors to smooth out the ranges where boxes are scarce. Pickpocketing humanoids as you quest feeds you free lockboxes, so you can level combat and lockpicking at the same time.

Why bother maxing lockpicking?

Higher skill opens richer junkboxes (which contain coin, gems, and occasional recipes), lets you loot locked world chests other players can't, and makes you the go-to rogue when a friend needs a box cracked. It's low-effort gold and a handy social perk.
