Delves reward crests according to the tier you clear: low tiers pay the entry-level crest, mid tiers step you up to the second grade, and Tier 8 and above pay the second-highest crest a few at a time per run. The top-grade crest is reserved for the highest tiers, and only in seasons where delves award it at all. Every crest you earn counts against the same weekly cap that dungeons and raids use, so delves are a valid path, not a side pocket.
Delve crest rewards at a glance
| Delve tier | Crest grade | What it upgrades |
| Tiers 1–3 | Entry grade (or none at the very bottom) | Adventurer-range gear |
| Tiers 4–7 | Second grade | Veteran-range gear |
| Tiers 8–11 | Third grade | Champion / Hero-range gear |
| Top tiers only | Top grade (season-dependent, small amounts) | Hero / Myth-range gear |
- Crest names rotate each expansion and season. In The War Within the four grades were Weathered, Carved, Runed and Gilded; open your Currency tab to see the exact names for the current Midnight season before planning a farm.
- Each clear drops a handful of crests, not a stack. Expect single-digit amounts per run, which is why Tier 8+ is worth the extra difficulty: the per-run count stays similar but the grade jumps.
- Crests drop from the end-of-delve chest when you finish the objective with lives remaining. Wiping out of lives ends the run without the chest.
- The weekly crest cap is shared across all sources. Once you hit it, extra delve runs give gear and rep, but no more crests.
- Bountiful delves (the ones you open with a Restored Coffer Key) add a Bountiful Coffer with a gear piece on top of the normal chest. They do not change which crest grade the tier pays.
Which delve tier gives the best crests?
Tier 8 is the practical target for most players. It is the first tier where the third-grade crest drops, it unlocks the higher Great Vault delve slots, and its difficulty is manageable for a decently geared solo character or a small group. Going to Tier 11 raises the challenge sharply while the crest grade only changes if the season allows top-grade crests from delves, so check that before you push past 8 for crests alone.
If your gear is stuck in the Veteran track, Tier 4–7 still gives useful second-grade crests, and you can climb tiers as your item level rises.
How many crests do you get per delve?
A single clear gives a small fixed batch from the end chest, roughly the same count you would see from one dungeon boss kill rather than a full key. That is why crest farming in delves is about repetition: several Tier 8 clears in a session adds up, and the runs are short compared with a full Mythic+ key. Bountiful runs speed up gear, not crests, so spend Coffer Keys for the extra loot roll rather than expecting bigger crest drops.
Do delves count toward the Great Vault?
Yes. Completing delves at Tier 8 or higher fills the delve row of your Great Vault at the highest reward level that row offers, and the Vault piece itself comes with upgrade tracks you can push using the crests you farmed. Clearing enough delves in a week to fill all three slots gives you a strong weekly choice even if you never step into a raid.
Are delve crests the same as dungeon and raid crests?
They are the exact same currency. A third-grade crest from a Tier 8 delve is identical to one from a mid-level Mythic+ key or a Heroic raid boss, and all of them draw down the same weekly cap. The only difference is the top grade: raids and high keys always award it, while delves do so only at the very top tiers and only in seasons where Blizzard enables it.
