WoW: Forever has 18 Hunter pet families. Foxes are the new one, and their unique ability is Trickster's Dance, which raises dodge chance and attack speed for 12 seconds. Every family learns Bite or Claw plus Dive or Dash, and each has one signature ability. Pets now take their stats from the hunter's gear, and player stat buffs no longer apply to them.

Key pet rules in Forever
- Shared kit: every family has Bite or Claw, and Dive or Dash.
- Scaling: pets take their stats from your gear, so upgrading yourself also upgrades your pet. Player stat buffs no longer apply to pets.
- Taming: according to Blizzard's September 24 beta notes, Tame Beast no longer works on beasts above your level.
- Wolf change: the same notes cut the attack power bonus from Furious Howl by 40%.
- Petless option: the Marksmanship talent Lone Wolf, an 11-point medal, gives 20% more damage when you have no active pet.
Where do you tame a fox in WoW: Forever?
Blizzard has confirmed Foxes as a family but hasn't said which fox beasts can be tamed or where they spawn. Tame Beast only works on beasts at or below your level, so a fox also has to be low enough level for you. Expect the tamable spots to get mapped as the beta goes on.
What is the best Hunter pet in WoW: Forever?
Blizzard hasn't published tuning numbers, so any strict ranking would be a guess. Pick by job instead. Turtle's Shell Shield and Bear's three-target Swipe suit pets that hold threat while you level. Crocolisk's Dismember cuts healing received by half, which matters a lot in PvP, and the Bird of Prey's disarm is useful there too. Fox's Trickster's Dance improves survival and damage at the same time. Wolf still brings Furious Howl, though with the smaller bonus on the beta.
Do Beast Mastery hunters get anything new for pets?
Yes. Beast Mastery gets Focused Fire and Summon Hawk, a new 16-point medal. Summon Hawk deals instant damage and calls a Hawk for 18 seconds, with up to 2 Hawks at a time, and it shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot. Thick Hide is merged into Endurance Training, and Improved Aspect of the Hawk is now called Deadly Aspects.
Can I play Hunter without a pet?
Yes. Marksmanship is built for it through Lone Wolf. The beta notes also removed the old 4% damage penalty that applied when your pet was out.
