There is no quest in World of Warcraft literally named "Gold Quest" — quest gold is a system, not one turn-in. The biggest quest payouts come from the current expansion's zone campaign and its weekly quests, from world quests that list gold as the reward, and from clearing older expansion campaigns at max level, where every turn-in scales to your character.
Where quest gold actually comes from
| Source | Why it pays | Repeatable? |
| Current expansion campaign | Long chains, densest gold per hour while levelling at cap | Once per character |
| World quests showing a gold reward | Short, often 5-10 minutes, stack several per zone run | Yes, rotating |
| Weekly quests and event turn-ins | Chunky single payouts plus reputation and items to vendor | Weekly |
| Legacy expansion zones at max level | Quest rewards scale, and greens you turn in vendor for extra | Once per character |
| Profession quest chains and orders | Unlock recipes that earn far more than the quest itself | Mixed |
How to run a quest gold session
- Pick one zone and clear it fully — travel time, not quest count, is what kills gold per hour.
- Take every world quest in that zone that lists gold, not gear, as the reward.
- Vendor the green quest rewards you do not need instead of leaving them in the bag.
- Have a gathering profession active while you ride; the herbs and ore usually out-earn the quests.
- Finish the weekly quests before reset — they are the single highest payout per minute.
Is questing a good way to make gold in WoW?
It is steady but not fast. Questing pays reliably from the first minute and needs no starting capital, which makes it the best option for a fresh character or a returning player with an empty bag.
Once you have a few thousand gold, professions, farming routes and the auction house all scale better. Most players use quests to build the first bankroll, then move on.
Which expansion's quests give the most gold?
The current one, because its quest rewards are tuned to current-level repair and consumable costs. Older campaigns pay less per quest but you kill everything in seconds, so gold per hour can stay competitive.
If you are chasing the Loremaster achievement anyway, you are already collecting that gold for free.
What does "WoW gold is gold quest" mean?
That phrasing is usually a garbled search for the same thing: which WoW quests give gold. It sometimes also comes from players asking whether gold rewards are worth it compared to item rewards. Short answer — take the gold when the item is below your current gear level.
Do Classic quests reward gold the same way?
Classic is far stingier. A full quest zone in Classic or Hardcore pays a fraction of what retail does, and mount money is a genuine milestone. There, vendor trash and gathering carry most of your income, with quests as a bonus.
