Heirlooms are bought with in-game gold from the heirloom vendor in your faction capital — Krom Stoutarm in Ironforge's Hall of Explorers for Alliance, Estelle Gendry in Orgrimmar for Horde. There is no shop purchase and no Midnight-specific vendor. Everything you buy is account-wide instantly: open Collections (Shift+P), pick the Heirlooms tab, and summon the gear onto any character.
The 4-step route
- Fly to your capital. Alliance: Ironforge, Hall of Explorers. Horde: Orgrimmar. Ask a guard for "Heirlooms" if the vendor icon isn't on your map.
- Buy the slots you actually level in first — chest and shoulders (the two biggest XP-bonus pieces), then a weapon for your main spec.
- Buy upgrade tokens from the same vendor. Each token raises the level your heirlooms keep scaling to; without them, a piece stops working long before max level.
- Summon, don't mail. On any alt, Shift+P → Heirlooms → click the item → "Create". It lands in your bags for free, as many times as you want.

Does Midnight change how heirlooms work?
Nothing about the buying flow has changed: same vendors, same gold, same Collections tab. Blizzard has been pushing account-wide power into Warband systems rather than new heirloom tiers, so don't wait for a Midnight-exclusive heirloom store — it hasn't been announced.
One habit worth keeping: after every major patch, re-check the vendor's upgrade-token list. When the level cap moves, a new token tier is usually what keeps your old heirlooms scaling.
How much gold should I budget?
Armor pieces are the cheap end, weapons cost several times more, and upgrade tokens are bought per item — so a fully upgraded set across every slot is a five-figure gold project, not a five-minute one. Start with chest, shoulders and one weapon; that's the bulk of the leveling benefit for a fraction of the price.
Are heirlooms still worth it?
Yes, if you level alts. The XP bonus stacks across pieces, the gear never needs replacing, and weapons scale with you so you never hit a dead-weapon slot mid-zone. If you only ever play one character, skip them and spend the gold elsewhere.
Can I buy heirlooms with real money?
Not directly — Blizzard doesn't sell them in the in-game shop. The only legitimate route is gold, which means farming it, making it on the Auction House, or converting a WoW Token.
