Battleground Blitz Arathi Basin is the rated 8v8 solo-queue version of the classic five-base map. Two teams of eight — two healers and six damage dealers each — fight over Stables, Farm, Blacksmith, Lumber Mill and Gold Mine, and the first team to hit the resource cap wins. Bases flip faster and resources tick faster than in the normal 15v15 match, so a round usually ends in about ten minutes.

How a Blitz Arathi Basin round plays out
- Opening split. With only eight players, the standard opener is a three-way spread: a small group to your home-side base, a larger push to Blacksmith (the centre node), and one or two players to the far node on your side of the map. Sending everyone to one place loses the resource race before the first fight even ends.
- Secure three. Holding three bases out-ticks the enemy. In Blitz the difference between three and two bases snowballs quickly because ticks are accelerated, so the third base matters more than any single kill.
- Rotate, don't chase. The maps is the same size as the 15v15 version but there are half as many players, so gaps appear constantly. Watch the minimap and the base indicators; the moment a node starts flashing, the nearest player rides there instead of finishing a low-value fight.
- Defend on the flag, not next to it. A base is only lost if an enemy stands on the flag uninterrupted for the capture timer. One defender who interrupts the cap and calls for help is worth more than three players fighting off the node.
- Close it out. Once you are ahead in resources, stop trading bases. Turtle the three you own, keep healers alive, and let the timer do the work.
Which bases matter most
Blacksmith sits in the middle of the map and connects to everything, which is why most Blitz games are decided by who owns it plus their two home-side bases. Lumber Mill gives a high-ground view of Blacksmith and Mine, so it is a strong spot for ranged players. Farm and Stables are the closest to each team's starting graveyard and are usually the safest first captures. Gold Mine is the most common late-game swap target because it is tucked in a corner and easy to ninja while the enemy is busy at Blacksmith.
How is Blitz Arathi Basin different from regular Arathi Basin?
Three things: team size (8 instead of 15), a locked healer count (exactly two per team), and speed. Flags capture faster and the score climbs faster, so a lead is harder to overturn and every rotation counts. It is also rated — you queue alone or as a duo, get matched by rating, and gain or lose points per game — whereas the regular battleground is casual.
How do I queue for Battleground Blitz?
Open the PvP tab in the Group Finder, pick Rated, and choose Battleground Blitz. You can queue solo or with one friend. Healers usually pop almost instantly; damage-dealer queues are longer because the system waits until it has two healers for each team. The map is random from the Blitz pool, so you cannot select Arathi Basin specifically.
What rating do I need for Blitz rewards?
Blitz has its own ladder with thresholds for seasonal rewards and titles that mirror the other rated brackets. The exact cutoffs shift each season, so check the in-game PvP tab for the current season's numbers rather than an old guide. Consistent node play — not damage meters — is what moves rating in this mode.
Is Blitz good for earning Conquest?
Yes. Rated Blitz wins award Conquest and count toward the weekly rated PvP objectives, and because rounds are short you can bank quite a few games in an hour. For many players it is the fastest way to fill the weekly Conquest cap without organising a group.
