Blackrock Depths has roughly a dozen quests in WoW Classic, and the two that matter most are Attunement to the Core (your key to Molten Core) and Jail Break! (part of the Onyxia attunement chain). The rest send you after Emperor Dagran Thaurissan, Princess Moira, the Grim Guzzler bar, Dark Iron smelting, and weapon recipes. Most are picked up in Blackrock Mountain or inside the dungeon itself.
BRD quests worth doing
| Quest | What it's for |
| Attunement to the Core | Grab a Core Fragment by the Molten Core portal — this is your Molten Core attunement, so you can summon straight in later. |
| Jail Break! | Rescue chain (Kharan Mzn for Horde, Marshal Windsor for Alliance) that feeds into the Onyxia attunement questline. |
| The Spectral Chalice | Learn to smelt Dark Iron ore — essential if you want Dark Iron crafting. |
| Dark Iron Legacy | Long chain that ends deep in BRD and rewards a Dark Iron weapon. |
| The Love Potion / Grim Guzzler favors | Bar-room quests around the Grim Guzzler tavern (Mistress Nagmara, freeing prisoners). |
| Free Commander Gor'shak | Rescue a captured NPC in the Detention Block; ties into the Jail Break! line. |
| Ribbly Screwspigot | Bounty to kill Ribbly, who hangs out in the Grim Guzzler. |
Is BRD attunement required for Molten Core?
You don't strictly need it to walk into the raid, but you want it. Attunement to the Core lets you use the summoning stone near the raid entrance to teleport directly into Molten Core instead of running the long path through BRD every raid night.
You get it by looting a Core Fragment from the lava near the Molten Core portal inside Blackrock Depths, then handing it to Lothos Riftwaker at the raid door. It takes minutes once you're in the right spot.
What is the Jail Break! quest?
Jail Break! is the BRD step of the Onyxia attunement chain. You free a captured ally deep inside the dungeon, which opens the follow-up quests leading to your Onyxia key. Horde start with Kharan Mzn; Alliance work through Marshal Windsor.
Because it drives Onyxia access, it's one of the most-run quest lines in classic-era BRD, especially for guilds pushing into 40-player content.
Where do you pick up BRD quests?
Most come from the Blackrock Mountain hub between the instance portals, from faction quest givers in the capitals, or from NPCs found inside the dungeon itself. A few, like The Spectral Chalice and parts of Dark Iron Legacy, only become available once you're already inside and talking to the right characters.
Because BRD is a sprawling non-linear dungeon, it helps to grab everything you're eligible for before you dive, so you clear multiple objectives in one run.
If you'd rather skip the confusing layout and knock out attunements, Onyxia keying, or a full BRD clear without the wipes, PewPewShop's vetted human pros offer coaching and rent-a-pro runs — real players who know the route, so you get the quests done and learn the pulls along the way.
