Timewalking is a rotating event that scales your character and gear down so dungeons from an older expansion become level-appropriate again. To join, wait for a Timewalking week to go live, press I to open Group Finder, go to Dungeon Finder, and pick the Timewalking option from the type dropdown. Loot drops at your current level.
How to queue for Timewalking, step by step
- Check that a Timewalking event is active — it appears in your in-game calendar and in the Adventure Guide's event list.
- Press I to open Group Finder.
- Select the Dungeon Finder tab.
- Change the dungeon type dropdown from Random Normal/Heroic to the Timewalking entry for the active expansion.
- Pick your role and queue. You'll be dropped into a random dungeon from that expansion's Timewalking pool.
- Pick up the weekly Timewalking quest from the event NPC or your quest log for the bonus reward — this is the part most people forget.

What is WoW Timewalking, exactly?
It's Blizzard's answer to old content becoming trivial. Instead of one-shotting a Burning Crusade or Mists of Pandaria dungeon at max level, the game temporarily caps your effective power so those bosses actually fight back. The dungeons keep their original layout and mechanics; only the numbers change.
The payoff is that loot and quest rewards come out at your current character level, so a fifteen-year-old dungeon can hand you gear that's genuinely useful right now.
Is Timewalking worth doing at max level?
Yes, mostly for the weekly quest. Completing the required number of Timewalking dungeons awards a piece of gear that is often better than what casual dungeon runs give, which makes it one of the cheapest catch-up steps in the week.
Beyond that, it's the only reliable source for a handful of collector items — the vendor mounts, pets and transmog sets sold for Timewalking currency don't drop anywhere else.
Can I level up with Timewalking?
Yes. Timewalking dungeons give solid experience while leveling, and the weekly quest gives a large lump on top. Many players use an active Timewalking week to push through a slow level range much faster than questing.
The catch is timing: you only get the option when the event is running, so it's a burst of progress rather than something you can rely on any day of the week.
How do I know when the next Timewalking event is?
Open the in-game calendar (default hotkey Ctrl+C in some setups, or the small calendar icon near the minimap). Bonus events including Timewalking are listed there for the weeks ahead, so you can plan which expansion's dungeons you want to farm.
