Type /gquit in the chat box and press Enter — that's it, you're out of the guild immediately with no "are you sure?" popup. This works in every flavour of Classic: Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery and Cataclysm Classic. Prefer clicking? Open the guild roster (default key J), right-click your own character name, and pick Leave Guild. Guild Masters can't quit until they hand the rank over.
Two ways to leave, step by step
- Chat command: click the chat bar, type /gquit, press Enter. You'll see a system message confirming you left, and the guild chat channel disappears.
- Guild window: press J (or click the Guild tab in the character panel on older Classic clients), find your own name in the roster, right-click it, and choose Leave Guild.
Quick facts before you /gquit
- No confirmation window on the chat command — one Enter and it's done, so don't type it to test.
- No cooldown. You can join another guild the second you accept an invite.
- Guild bank access is gone instantly. Withdraw anything you're owed first; you cannot get it back afterwards.
- Your guild tabard stays in your bags but shows no guild crest once you're unguilded.
- Reputation and rank are lost. Rejoining later starts you at the lowest rank, and in Cataclysm Classic your guild reputation resets to Neutral with the new guild.
- Everyone can see it. Officers and members online at the time get a system message that you left.

How does a Guild Master leave a guild in Classic?
A Guild Master cannot /gquit while holding the rank. Open the roster, right-click the member you want to hand it to, and choose Promote to Guild Master (it asks for confirmation). Once the transfer goes through you're a regular member and /gquit works normally.
If nobody suitable is online, promote a trusted alt or officer first. There is no in-game way to dissolve a Classic guild outright — a guild with zero members simply becomes inactive and the name eventually frees up.
How do I kick someone else out of the guild?
You need a rank with the Kick permission. Right-click their name in the roster and choose Remove from Guild, or type /gkick charactername. You can only remove players of a lower rank than your own, and offline members can be removed the same way.
Can I rejoin the guild after leaving?
Yes — you just need a fresh invite from someone with invite rights. Nothing blocks you, but you come back at the bottom rank with none of your old permissions or guild bank tab access. Officers will have to reapply those manually.
Does leaving a guild affect my character or gear?
Not at all in Era, Hardcore and Season of Discovery — your gear, gold, mounts and progress are untouched. In Cataclysm Classic you lose guild perks (like the mount-speed and XP bonuses) and any guild reputation rewards you hadn't yet purchased, until you build rep with a new guild.
