You cannot wipe an arena rating with a button in TBC Classic. Rating belongs to the arena team, so the only way to start at 0 is to leave or disband that team and buy a fresh charter from an Arena Organizer (80g for 2v2, 120g for 3v3, 200g for 5v5). Your hidden matchmaking rating stays on your character, so the new team still faces opponents at your real level.

How to start a fresh team rating, step by step

  1. Leave or disband the current team. Members type /teamquit 2v2 (or 3v3, 5v5). The captain can drop the whole team with /teamdisband 2v2, or through the Arena Teams tab in the PvP window.
  2. Buy a new charter. Arena Organizer NPCs sit at the arena sites: Ring of Trials in Nagrand, Circle of Blood in Blade's Edge Mountains and Gadgetzan in Tanaris. Prices: 2v2 charter 80g, 3v3 120g, 5v5 200g. Level 70 is required.
  3. Collect signatures. Two players for 2v2, three for 3v3, five for 5v5. Everyone signing must be level 70 and not already on a team in that bracket.
  4. Turn the charter in. Hand it back to the organizer and the team is live at 0 team rating with 0 personal rating for every member.
  5. Requalify for points. The new team needs 10 games in the week, and you need 30% of its games, before it pays arena points on the weekly flush.

What a new team does not reset

  • Hidden MMR. It is tracked per character and per bracket, not per team. A 0-rated team full of 2000 MMR players gets 2000-level opponents from game one.
  • Arena points. They live on your character and carry between seasons up to the 5000 cap.
  • Gear you already bought. Rated items stay in your bags after the personal rating that unlocked them is gone.

Does making a new team reset your MMR in TBC Classic?

No. Matchmaking rating follows the player, which is exactly why Blizzard designed it that way: re-rolling teams to farm easy opponents does not work. What actually happens on a new team is that the gap between team rating and MMR makes each win worth a lot of points, so the team rating climbs quickly until it settles near the group's real level.

The only thing that moves MMR is results. Winning raises it, losing lowers it. There is no command, ticket or vendor that touches it.

Do you lose personal rating when you leave an arena team?

Yes. Personal rating exists only inside a specific team roster. Quit or get removed and it is gone; join a new team and you start at 0 again. Because rated gear checks personal rating at purchase time, buy anything you qualify for before you leave.

Personal rating also affects your weekly payout. If it falls more than 150 points below the team rating, arena points are calculated from your personal rating instead of the team's, so bench-sitting on a strong team does not pay.

When does Blizzard reset arena ratings?

At the end of every arena season. Team ratings and personal ratings drop to 0 when the new season starts, while arena points and existing gear stay with you. Between seasons there are no scheduled resets, and support will not reset a rating on request.

Can you reset a bad rating without disbanding the team?

Not directly. If you are captain and want to keep the team name, the practical route is still disband and re-buy the charter, since names free up once the old team is gone. If you are a member, leaving the roster removes your personal rating but the team's rating keeps its history until the captain disbands it.

Also worth knowing: tanking games to lower MMR on purpose only makes climbing back slower. Every loss you throw is a loss you must win back before the rating gains get big again.

If the honest problem is climbing rather than resetting, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer arena coaching and play-together rating help (2v2 from EUR 20.03, 3v3 from EUR 25.04) — no bots, no cheats, and a long zero-ban record — so a fresh team can turn into a fresh climb instead of a repeat of the last one.
