Burning Crusade Classic has 16 five-man dungeons, nearly all of them packed into Outland and mostly built as multi-wing complexes — Hellfire Citadel, Coilfang Reservoir, Auchindoun, Caverns of Time and Tempest Keep. Normal difficulty covers roughly level 60-70. Every dungeon also has a level-70 Heroic mode locked behind a reputation-purchased key, and that Heroic loot is what most players are actually here for.

Quick facts worth knowing before you queue

  • There is no dungeon finder in TBC Classic. You build groups in chat or via the group listing — expect to link gear and, for Heroics, a key.
  • Heroic mode is level 70 only and requires a key bought from the dungeon's faction quartermaster once you reach the required standing.
  • Each hub has its own reputation: Honor Hold or Thrallmar for Hellfire, Cenarion Expedition for Coilfang, Lower City for Auchindoun, Keepers of Time for Caverns of Time, The Sha'tar for Tempest Keep.
  • Heroics award badges you spend on gear at a vendor in Shattrath — this is the backbone of pre-raid and catch-up gearing.
  • The Shattered Halls, Shadow Labyrinth, The Arcatraz and The Black Morass are the notorious difficulty spikes. Sethekk Halls and Mana-Tombs are the gentle ones.
  • Attunement matters: several raids require dungeon-based chains, and The Black Morass in particular sits on the path to Karazhan.

What order should I run TBC Classic dungeons while leveling?

Roughly by zone progression: Ramparts and Blood Furnace in the 60s, then Slave Pens and Underbog, then Mana-Tombs and Auchenai Crypts in the mid-60s, then Sethekk Halls, Old Hillsbrad and Shadow Labyrinth approaching 70.

Tempest Keep's three wings, The Steamvault, The Shattered Halls and The Black Morass are the level 70 tier — save those for when you have gear, not just the level requirement.

Which TBC dungeons give the best pre-raid gear?

Heroic Mechanar, Heroic Arcatraz and Heroic Steamvault are the classic stops for weapons and trinkets, while Heroic Shadow Labyrinth and Shattered Halls carry strong caster and melee pieces. Magisters' Terrace, once available, upgrades several slots on its own.

Pair drops with badge purchases. Farming Heroics purely for badges is often faster than chasing one stubborn item that refuses to drop.

How long does a TBC Classic dungeon take?

A clean Normal run is usually 20-40 minutes. Heroics vary wildly — a geared group can clear Mechanar in about half an hour, while an undergeared group can spend well over an hour in Shattered Halls or Arcatraz on crowd control alone.

Do I need to be a specific class or spec?

No, but TBC Heroics genuinely lean on crowd control. Bring at least one Mage, Warlock, Hunter, Rogue or Druid who knows their CC, mark targets before the pull, and the hardest packs become routine.
