A Warband is World of Warcraft's account-wide layer, introduced with The War Within — every character you own in a region, on any realm and either faction, belongs to one Warband and shares a bank, a gold pool, collections and most reputation progress. It also replaced the old character select screen with a campsite where your chosen characters stand around a fire.

What a Warband shares

  • Warband bank — purchasable tabs accessible from any bank NPC, plus a shared gold pool you deposit into and withdraw from on any character.
  • Gold — no more mailing coin to your alt. Park it in the Warband bank and it is available everywhere.
  • Collections — mounts, pets and toys were already account-wide; transmog appearance restrictions were loosened heavily, so most gear one character learns unlocks for the rest.
  • Reputation — The War Within factions track account-wide, and Blizzard has kept converting older factions so alts inherit your best standing instead of grinding from Neutral.
  • Warbound gear — items flagged Warbound Until Equipped can be sent to any character on your account, then bind on equip.
  • The camp — the login screen scene. Purely cosmetic: you pick which characters appear and where they stand.

What a Warband does not do: it does not merge your characters, does not share bags or equipped gear, does not share quest progress, and does not stretch across regions. Your EU characters and your US characters are separate Warbands.

How does the Warband bank work?

Walk up to any bank and switch to the Warband tab. You buy tabs with gold — the first is cheap, each extra one costs meaningfully more — and anything you drop in is instantly visible to every character on the account. Crafting reagents, BoE gear, mounts you have not learned yet, transmog you are hoarding: all of it moves without a single mail.

Soulbound items generally stay stuck to the character that bound them, so treat the Warband bank as your shared warehouse, not a way to move raid gear between alts.

Does a Warband work across factions and realms?

Yes, within one region. Your Horde main on one realm and your Alliance alt on another sit in the same Warband and use the same bank and gold. This is the single biggest practical change: cross-faction alt storage used to be impossible without a neutral auction house workaround.

What is "Warbound Until Equipped" gear?

It is loot that stays account-flexible until someone puts it on. Get a piece on your main that suits your alt better, mail it over, equip it there — at that point it binds to that character. It is the main way endgame drops reach the character who actually needs them.

Do I have to do anything to set my Warband up?

No. It exists automatically for every character on the account. The only optional bits are buying bank tabs and arranging who appears at the camp on the character select screen, which you edit right there in the scene.
