Jail Break! is a WoW Classic escort quest inside Blackrock Depths, where you unlock Marshal Windsor's cell in the Detention Block and fight alongside him as he battles his way out. It is an Alliance step on the road to the Drakefire Amulet and Onyxia attunement, and it is one of the longest escorts in the game.
If you typed the word jailbreak expecting a hack, a cheat or a modified client: that is not a thing in WoW Classic. Jail Break! is simply a quest name, and the exclamation mark is part of it.
Jail Break! at a glance

How the escort runs
- Fight your way into the prison wing of Blackrock Depths and clear the patrolling Dark Iron guards.
- Loot the prison cell key from the guards in that wing.
- Open Windsor's cell, talk to him and accept Jail Break!.
- Stay with him. He moves through the block on his own path, stopping to fight groups that spawn along the way. He hits hard, but he can still die - and if he dies, the quest fails and you reset.
- Keep healing and interrupts ready. Most wipes here come from adds pulled ahead of Windsor, not from Windsor's own fights.
- Finish the run with him, then follow the chain to Stormwind.
Where is Marshal Windsor in Blackrock Depths?
He is locked in one of the cells in the Detention Block, the prison section you pass through fairly early in the instance. You cannot talk your way in - the cell stays shut until someone in the group is carrying the key.
Do you need a key for Windsor's cell?
Yes. The prison cell key drops from the Dark Iron guards inside that wing, so clear them until it drops rather than running straight to the cell. Only one player needs it to open the door.
What happens after Jail Break!?
The chain leaves the dungeon. Windsor heads for Stormwind, and the follow-up steps end with him publicly exposing Lady Katrana Prestor as the black dragon Onyxia. Completing that line is what earns Alliance players the Drakefire Amulet, the key that lets you enter Onyxia's Lair.
Can you solo Jail Break!?
Not at level. Blackrock Depths is a full group dungeon in Classic, and the escort spawns waves that will chew through a solo character in normal gear. Modern-era players who massively outgear the content can walk it alone, but on a fresh Classic realm you want a group of five - or at least a well-geared tank and healer pair.
