"WoW Burning Crusade Anniversary" almost always means Blizzard's 20th Anniversary Classic realms progressing into The Burning Crusade — the fresh-start Classic servers opened for WoW's 20th birthday in November 2024, which run the original 1-60 game in timed phases and then open the Dark Portal. It can also mean TBC's own anniversary: the expansion launched 16 January 2007.

Three separate things get called "the anniversary" and they are easy to mix up:

  • Anniversary Classic realms — fresh Classic servers launched in November 2024 for WoW's 20th anniversary, with PvE, PvP and Hardcore flavours in both NA and EU. Everyone starts at level 1 on day one; raids and content unlock on a published phase schedule rather than all at once.

No. Nothing new is being built. It is the 2007 expansion re-released on the anniversary realm timeline, the same way The Burning Crusade Classic ran in 2021.
