Blizzard never opens the next raid on patch day — it goes live one to two weeks after the patch that adds it, and only Normal and Heroic unlock first. How to check the exact date yourself
- Press Shift+J to open the Adventure Guide, select the raid, and read the lock text — Blizzard puts the unlock date directly on the entry once the patch is live.
- Read the official patch notes on the Warcraft site. The raid schedule is published there with a dated line per difficulty and per region.
- Match it to your region's reset: Tuesday in the Americas, Wednesday in Europe. Raids always open on reset day, never mid-week.
Why isn't the raid open on patch day?
The gap is deliberate. It gives everyone a week or two to level, gear up from dungeons and world content, and hit the item level where the first bosses are actually survivable.
It also spreads server load away from launch day and keeps the Mythic race honest — every guild starts the hardest difficulty on the same reset, with the same gearing time behind them.
How often does WoW get a new raid?
A new raid tier arrives with each season, so most expansions ship two to three of them. That works out to a fresh tier every few months rather than on a fixed calendar date — the raid follows the patch, and the patch follows testing.
Between tiers the current raid stays fully relevant: it keeps dropping season gear, the mount and cosmetic drops stay in the loot table, and the weekly lockout still resets.
What should I do before the next raid opens?
Bank a full set of upgrades from the season's dungeons, finish any crafting orders you want on day one, and get your embellishments and enchants sorted before the rush drives prices up.
