WoW Classic Plus does not have a release date, because Blizzard has never officially announced a game or expansion by that name. Classic Plus is a community term for vanilla-style WoW with brand-new content instead of a re-run of old patches. The closest official experiment so far is Season of Discovery, which went live on November 30, 2023, running alongside permanent Classic Era, Hardcore and 20th Anniversary realms.
Quick facts: what actually exists
| Classic Plus (as a named product) | Not announced, no date |
| Season of Discovery | Launched November 30, 2023; new runes, raids and a phased level cap up to 60 |
| Classic Hardcore realms | Launched August 24, 2023; one life per character |
| 20th Anniversary Classic realms | Launched November 21, 2024; fresh progression from vanilla onward |
| Mists of Pandaria Classic | Launched summer 2025, continuing the progression line |
| Classic Era realms | Permanent, patch 1.15-era vanilla with no expansions |
If you see a specific Classic Plus date on a forum or in a video, it is speculation. Blizzard has said for years that it likes the idea and that Season of Discovery was its way of testing how far vanilla can be changed before players stop recognising it. That statement is the only official ground the rumor stands on.
WoW Classic Character LevelingProfessional power leveling service for Classic characters 1-60from 2.99 EURGet it doneIs Season of Discovery the same thing as Classic Plus?
Not quite, though it is the nearest thing to it. Season of Discovery kept the vanilla world, classes and 1-60 leveling curve, then layered in rune engravings that gave classes new abilities, turned Blackfathom Deeps, Gnomeregan and the Sunken Temple into raids, and raised the level cap in phases. A true Classic Plus, as most players describe it, would be a permanent realm type with fresh zones, dungeons and raids rather than a time-limited season.
Season of Discovery was explicitly labelled a season. What Blizzard learned from it will shape whatever comes next, but it has not committed to a follow-up under the Classic Plus banner.
Has Blizzard said anything about Classic Plus officially?
Only in general terms. Members of the Classic team have talked openly about wanting a version of Azeroth that builds on vanilla rather than replaying it, and Season of Discovery was presented as the first step in that direction. There has been no announcement with a name, a date or a feature list that you could reasonably call a Classic Plus reveal.
The realistic reading is this: if a permanent Classic Plus ever ships, it will be announced through Blizzard's own news channels or at a BlizzCon-style event first, and the launch will follow months later, just as Season of Discovery, Hardcore and the Anniversary realms did.
What should I play right now if I want the Classic Plus feeling?
Three good options, depending on what you are after:
- Season of Discovery for the new-content feeling: rune abilities, reworked dungeons as raids, and class combinations vanilla never allowed.
- 20th Anniversary realms for a fresh vanilla start with a growing population and progression into later expansions.
- Classic Hardcore if the appeal is difficulty rather than novelty. One death, one character, no second chances.
All three keep the slow, social 1-60 grind that made people want a Classic Plus in the first place.
Will progress from these realms carry into Classic Plus?
Unknown, because there is nothing to carry it into yet. Historically Blizzard has let players move seasonal characters to permanent realms once a season ends, which is what happened for Season of Mastery. If Classic Plus ever exists as a permanent ruleset, expect a similar migration offer rather than a guarantee that today's characters transfer intact.
