The honest part: you cannot farm Gold Veins directly
Gold has no dedicated spawn table of its own. It shares node points with Iron and Mithril, which means a "Gold route" is really an Iron and Mithril route that you run until Gold rolls. Nobody circles a zone hitting only Gold — that is not how the spawn system works. Plan for a mixed haul and treat Gold as the bonus that pays for the lap.
A route that actually works
- Arathi Highlands — loop the hills and the ridges around the central roads. Dense mid-tier node coverage, low competition on most servers.
- Badlands — tight zone, heavy node density, and everything is on the surface. Best raw nodes-per-minute of the classic mid-tier zones.
- Hillsbrad Foothills — good if you are levelling Mining past 150 anyway and want the ore on the way.
- Thousand Needles / Tanaris — larger loops, better when Badlands and Arathi are camped.
- Run with Find Minerals up permanently and a mount. Gathering income in Classic is almost entirely a function of how fast you cover ground.
Should I sell Gold Ore or Gold Bars?
Check both on your own auction house before you smelt — the answer swings by server and by week. Smelting adds a step and locks the ore into one use, so if the bar premium is thin, ore is the safer listing because more buyers can use it.
On servers with an active crafting economy, bars usually carry a modest premium. On quiet servers the ore moves faster.
Is TBC Gold Ore any different?
In TBC the ore is unchanged, but Outland introduced its own tiers — Fel Iron and Adamantite — that most players jump straight to at 300 Mining. That pulls farmers out of Azeroth and often makes Gold Veins less contested and more profitable in TBC than in vanilla Classic, since demand from levelling crafters never fully disappears.
If you are levelling Mining through TBC, do not skip the Azeroth mid-tier. That stretch between 155 and 275 is where Gold turns up.
How much is it worth per hour?
Prices are server-specific and shift with raid tier, so any fixed number you read online is stale. Measure your own: run one clean 30-minute lap of Badlands, price the full haul, double it. That is your real rate — and it is the only number worth planning around.
What is the fastest way to Mining 155?
Copper to roughly 65, Tin to about 125, then Iron in Arathi or the Badlands takes you the rest of the way. Smelt everything you mine — smelting gives skill-ups cheaply and turns dead bag weight into stackable bars.
