- 2-hour listing: 5% of vendor price.

- Item is cancelled or expires: the deposit is lost.
How much the Forever deposit costs
Multiply the vendor price by the rate for your listing length, and pay 1 silver if the result is lower. The table applies that rule to common vendor values.
| Vendor price | 2 hours (5%) | 8 hours (20%) | 24 hours (60%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 copper | 1 silver | 1 silver | 1 silver |
| 1 silver | 1 silver | 1 silver | 1 silver |
| 5 silver | 1 silver | 1 silver | 3 silver |
| 20 silver | 1 silver | 4 silver | 12 silver |
| 1 gold | 5 silver | 20 silver | 60 silver |
| 5 gold | 25 silver | 1 gold | 3 gold |
The minimum applies to 2-hour listings below 20 silver of vendor value and 8-hour listings below 5 silver. For 24-hour listings, it applies below about 1 silver 67 copper. After the change, an item that vendors for 1 silver should cost 5, 20 or 60 copper instead of a flat 1 silver, assuming the formula stays as Zierhut described.
Gathering materials are a common way to fill the auction house without crafted gear. Herbalism and Mining give you that supply, and either skill can be worked on as you level.

Is the 1 silver minimum a bug?
Blizzard has confirmed the 1 silver minimum will change, but the coverage does not say whether it was a bug. Wowhead first noted that it might come from the Retail client and that its intent was unknown.
Zierhut then said, "we're changing it back to one copper as the minimum deposit." No patch or date came with that statement, so plan around 1 silver until the in-game deposit changes.
Do you get the deposit back if an item does not sell?
No. The Forever deposit comes back only when the item sells, and an expired listing loses it.
Cancelling also forfeits the deposit. That makes repeated undercutting more expensive on high-vendor items, where a 24-hour listing can stake several times what a 2-hour listing does.
Is the deposit the same as the auction house fee?
The deposit is the up-front listing cost, and it is refundable on a sale. Classic auction houses have also taken a separate cut from the final sale price.
The deposit reports do not give a Forever figure for that cut. Check the sale mail and compare the amount received with your listing price rather than relying on a number from another version of the game.
Which listing length is the best value?
Use 24 hours for cheap items and shorter listings for items with high vendor value. Under the minimum, a long listing often costs the same as a short one, while expensive items put far more gold at risk.
A 1 gold vendor item stakes 5 silver at 2 hours and 60 silver at 24 hours. If that item sells quickly, the short listing is the better compromise.
Does the displayed deposit match what you pay?
On the beta, the charged deposit did not always match the displayed amount. Players found the issue, and Wowhead's test showed deposits of 1 silver or less rounding up to 1 silver, while larger deposits could be off by a few copper.
Blizzard had not commented when that was reported. The 1 silver floor is confirmed on live servers, but the few-copper difference is not, so compare your gold before and after a listing if the exact amount matters.
Should you vendor cheap items instead?
Vendor cheap items that are unlikely to sell. The current minimum puts 1 silver at risk on every listing, which can be far more than a low-value item returns from a merchant.
An item that vendors for 8 copper still stakes a full 1 silver. It only makes sense to list it if demand is real, and that calculation becomes easier once the 1 copper minimum arrives.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum deposit on the WoW Forever auction house?
As of November 7, 2026, WoW: Forever charges at least 1 silver for each auction house listing, per Wowhead's post-launch report. Blizzard's Kris Zierhut said in the Crix interview that the minimum is changing back to 1 copper, but no date has been announced.
When will the WoW Forever auction house deposit change to 1 copper?
No date has been announced. Kris Zierhut said in the Crix interview that the change to a 1 copper minimum is coming, but not yet. Until the in-game amount changes, expect each listing to cost at least 1 silver.
How is the WoW Forever auction house deposit calculated?
The deposit is based on the item's vendor price. It is 5% for a 2-hour listing, 20% for 8 hours and 60% for 24 hours. If that result is below the current minimum of 1 silver, you pay 1 silver instead.
Do you lose your WoW Forever auction house deposit if an item expires?
Yes. The deposit is lost if the listing expires or you cancel it, and it is returned only if the item sells. That makes cancelling and reposting more expensive, especially for items with high vendor value on 24-hour listings.
Why can't I use the auction house in WoW Forever?
One possible reason is a Temporary Economy Hold, which Blizzard can place on accounts suspected of Real Money Trading. It restricts trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House during an investigation. Blizzard says the hold is removed automatically if nothing is found, and false positives are possible while the system is tuned.
