WoW: Forever Server Population — What Is Actually Known

Blizzard has not announced how many realms WoW: Forever will have, what they will be called, which types (PvE, PvP, RP) will exist, or how they will be split across regions. As of September 13, 2026, the only hard facts are a worldwide launch on November 4, 2026, name reservation from October 27, and beta from September 17 — realm population numbers do not exist yet.

Forever realms: confirmed vs. unknown

The one date that matters for realm watchers is October 27. Name reservation and character creation open then, and a realm list before that window is a reasonable expectation — but it is an expectation, not a Blizzard promise. Until the list is public, any "Forever realm population" chart you see is guesswork.

Will WoW: Forever use layering or sharding at launch?

Blizzard has not said. Nothing in the BlizzCon 2026 panels or the blue posts so far addresses layering, sharding or realm caps for Forever, so treat every claim either way as unconfirmed.

What is confirmed is that launch-day crowds will have more room to spread than in 2019. Skyborne characters start on Zephras Isle, a brand-new 1–12 island, and there are nine new dungeons plus the Riverglades (30–45) in the Eastern Kingdoms. New zones absorb population; they do not remove the need for a realm list.

Which faction will have the bigger population?

Unknown, and this time the usual Classic pattern may not hold. The new Skyborne race is not neutral: Windshaper Skyborne go Horde, High Order Skyborne go Alliance, and Alliance Skyborne can be Mages while Horde Skyborne can be Shamans. Add Forsaken Paladins on the Horde side and Dwarf Shamans on the Alliance side, and both factions have a fresh draw. Faction balance per realm will only be readable once realms are named and people start reserving.

How many players are expected on WoW: Forever?

Blizzard has published no player projections. Two things point at a large day-one crowd: Forever costs nothing beyond the normal subscription, and Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes (emailed from October 20) let an invited friend play November 4–11 with no subscription at all. Both lower the barrier compared with a paid expansion. Actual numbers stay unknown until launch.

Will Forever have Hardcore realms?

Hardcore is confirmed as coming to Forever, but Blizzard has not published its rules or said whether it lives on separate realms, a separate mode or something else. Assume nothing about Hardcore realm counts until a blue post spells it out.

What should you do while the realm list is missing?

1. Pick your race and class now; the realm can wait. The Skyborne race needs the Heroic Pack or higher.
2. If you want beta access (September 17 – October 21), that requires the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.
3. Have your guild agree on a realm the day the list drops, then reserve names between October 27 and November 3 — first come, first served, three characters per account.
4. Expect a busy first week. Nine new dungeons and 1,000+ new quests mean plenty of parallel routes if your realm is packed.
