No — a WoW: Forever transmog set stores exactly one appearance per armor type per slot. That is how Blizzard described it in the September 17 live Q&A, per Wowhead's written recap. A Paladin can keep a plate chest look and a cloth chest look inside the same set, but never two plate chest looks. Appearances stay within their armor type: plate to plate, cloth to cloth, and a set swaps to whichever type you have equipped.

Forever transmog: the confirmed rules

  • Sets: one saved appearance per armor type per slot. Chest, legs, shoulders and the rest each hold a plate look, a mail look, a leather look and a cloth look at most — not several of the same type.
  • Type lock: plate can only look like plate, cloth like cloth. No cross-type transmog.
  • Opt-in: transmog is set at a transmogrifier in certain cities, or disabled entirely. Opting out shows you in your real equipped gear.
  • Classic Mode: disables transmog automatically at first launch. Appearances still collect while it is off.
  • Collecting from dungeons: bind-on-pickup Uncommon and Rare drops give their appearance to every eligible looter in the group. Epic raid drops only to the player the item binds to. Poor and Common items grant their look on loot without binding.
  • Level gates: appearance level restrictions lift at 60. Hidden helm and hidden cloak are still respected.
  • Cosmetic-only items: rare in Forever, so most looks come from gear you would actually wear.

Can a Paladin transmog plate into cloth in WoW: Forever?

No. A Paladin wearing a plate chest can only choose plate chest appearances for it. The 'per armor type' rule is what lets a Paladin's set carry a cloth appearance at all: if you slot an actual cloth chest — say, a caster piece you picked up while leveling — the set applies your saved cloth look to it. Put the plate chest back on and the plate look returns. It is one entry per type, not a way to wear robes over plate.

Blizzard has not published whether every slot supports every type, or how many named sets a character can save. Treat those as unknown until the beta or launch confirms them.

How many outfit slots does WoW: Forever have?

Blizzard has not given a number of outfit or set slots. What is confirmed is the structure of a single set: one appearance per armor type per slot. Whether you can store five sets or fifty, and whether sets can be named or shared between characters, was not covered at BlizzCon or the September 17 Q&A. If you are counting on a large wardrobe, wait for the beta (September 17 – October 21) to test it before committing time to farming looks.

Are transmog appearances account-wide in Forever?

Collections are account-wide across rulesets — Normal, PvP and Roleplay — with one exception: Hardcore. Hardcore progress flows out to the other rulesets, but nothing flows in. So appearances you collect on a Hardcore character reach your other characters; looks earned elsewhere do not appear inside Hardcore. Forever is realmless, so there is no server barrier to worry about either — you pick a ruleset, not a realm.

Does turning transmog off hide other players' transmog too?

Yes. Transmog in Forever is opt-in per player. If you opt out, everyone appears in their genuinely equipped gear, including other players. If you opt in, you see transmogged looks. Classic Mode does this switch for you at first launch and can be changed later.

What this means for collectors at launch

The group-wide appearance grant on Uncommon and Rare dungeon drops is the big change. In Forever, running Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron or Drowned City with a full group fills everyone's collection from the same kill, so a dungeon-heavy leveling route doubles as a wardrobe run. Epic raid drops from Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit stay personal — only the player who binds the item gets the look.

If you would rather have vetted human players handle the dungeon grind while you focus on the looks you actually want, PewPewShop offers play-together dungeon runs like a Drowned City Dungeon Run from EUR 16, and full progression help such as Forever Leveling 1–30 from EUR 13 — all Forever services are pre-orders until the November 4 launch.
