You can enter a raid as many times as you like, but you can only loot each boss once per difficulty per week. Normal, Heroic and Mythic each carry their own weekly lockout, so a single boss can pay out on all three in the same week. Lockouts reset Tuesday in the Americas and Wednesday in Europe.

The short version, in numbers

  • Entries per week: unlimited. Nothing stops you walking back in.
  • Loot per boss: once per character, per difficulty, per week.
  • Difficulties that track separately: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic each hold their own saved status.
  • Reset: weekly, at the regional reset — Tuesday morning in the Americas, Wednesday morning in Europe.
  • Per character, not per account: every alt gets its own fresh set of lockouts.
  • Entry throttle: the game caps how many instances you can zone into per hour (roughly ten). Hit it and you get the "you have entered too many instances recently" error until the hour rolls over.

Normal and Heroic use a flexible, per-boss loot lock: you can join any group, on any boss, in any order, and you simply get no loot from a boss you already killed that week. Mythic locks you to a specific instance ID with a fixed group of kills, which is why Mythic progression teams talk about "saved" and "fresh" IDs.

Can I run the same raid twice in one week?

Yes — as many times as you want. You can help friends, chase an achievement, or go back for a boss you skipped. What you cannot do is get a second personal loot drop from a boss you already killed on that difficulty. Group members who are not saved can still trade you eligible items they win, which is the only legitimate way extra gear reaches you inside the same lockout.

Can I loot the same boss on Normal and Heroic?

You can. Difficulties do not share a lockout, so one boss can be killed and looted on Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic in a single week for four separate chances at its drop table. Plenty of players clear the lower difficulties early in the week purely for extra rolls at a weapon or trinket.

How many times can I farm an old raid for a mount?

Once per week per character, for the vast majority of legacy raids. That is exactly why mount farmers keep a stable of alts: ten characters means ten attempts at the same drop every reset instead of one. Run the raid a second time on the same character and the boss dies, but the chest is empty.

Do lockouts carry over if I do not finish?

Partial progress sticks. If your group kills three bosses and stops, you stay saved to those three until the weekly reset, and you can come back later in the week for the rest. Mythic raid IDs can also be extended past the reset, which lets a progression team keep clearing straight to their current boss instead of re-farming earlier kills.
