Nothing you do on the WoW: Midnight beta carries over to live realms. Beta and PTR run on separate test servers, so any character, gear, gold, reputation or achievement earned there stays there and disappears when testing ends. Copies flow one direction only: you clone a live character onto the beta, never the beta character back to retail.
What does and doesn't transfer
| Beta characters | Stay on the test realm. Wiped when the test cycle closes. |
| Gear, gold, crafting mats | Do not transfer. Beta vendors and boosts hand these out freely for testing. |
| Achievements, reputation, renown | Do not transfer. Earn them again on live. |
| Mounts, pets, transmog looted on beta | Not added to your live collection. |
| Character copy | Live to beta only, and it is a snapshot — whatever you do to the copy never touches your real character. |
| Beta access itself | Sits on your Battle.net account, not on a character. It is not the expansion and gives no head start at launch. |
| Your live account | Everything there — characters, warband-wide collections, gold, professions — rolls straight into Midnight on launch day. |
Do I keep anything at all from the beta?
Only knowledge. You keep the routes you learned, the class changes you tested and a rough idea of which specs feel good, which is genuinely worth something in the first week of a new season. Blizzard has also handed out cosmetic thank-yous to testers in past cycles, but that is a gift on the live account, not a transfer of beta progress.
Bug reports and feedback are the one thing that really "carries over": what testers flag gets fixed before the launch build ships.
Can I copy my live character to the Midnight beta?
Yes, when a beta or PTR wave is running and copies are enabled. You pick the realm and character in the beta client's copy tool, wait for the queue, then log in to a duplicate. The copy stops updating the moment it is made — keep raiding on live and the beta clone will not reflect it. Re-copy if you need fresher gear.
Beta invites are account-wide and come from the opt-in in your Battle.net account settings, or from a pre-purchase tier that grants access. Neither is something you can move between accounts.
Does my current gear carry into Midnight on live?
Your live character keeps every item, mount and achievement it has — expansions never wipe your account. What changes is how long that gear stays useful. Endgame pieces from the current expansion usually carry you through the opening levels of the new one and then get replaced by quest greens well before the first season starts.
The parts that hold value across the jump are account-wide: collections, professions knowledge, gold and anything warband-shared.
So is testing the beta worth the time?
If you enjoy poking at unfinished systems, yes. If your goal is a head start on rating, gear or gold at launch, no — none of it survives the wipe. The efficient play is to bank gold, finish anything account-wide on live, and read up on the new dungeons instead of grinding a temporary character.
