Open your Professions window (default key P), click the Crafting Orders tab, and choose Place an Order. Pick the recipe, decide whether you supply the reagents, set a minimum quality if you need one, add a gold commission, then send it as a Public, Guild or Personal order. Midnight uses the same system Dragonflight introduced, so there are no new steps to learn.
Placing an order, step by step
- Press P to open Professions. If the profession you need isn't one of yours, that's fine — you can still order from it.
- Switch to the Crafting Orders tab at the top of the window.
- Choose the profession, then browse or search the recipe list for the item you want made.
- Select the recipe. The panel shows the required reagents and any optional or finishing reagents the crafter can add.
- Decide who provides materials. Slot in reagents from your own bags, or leave slots empty and let the crafter cover them (expect to pay for that in the commission).
- Set a minimum quality if the item has quality tiers and you don't want a low-rank result. Crafters below that skill level won't be able to fill it.
- Enter your commission in gold — this is locked up when you post and paid out on delivery.
- Pick the order type, add a short note if the crafter needs context, and submit.

Do I have to supply the reagents?
No, but it's almost always cheaper. When you provide materials, the crafter is only charging for skill and time. Leave slots empty and they have to buy the mats themselves, so the commission climbs accordingly.
One habit worth building: check the auction house price of the reagents before you decide. On many realms it's cheaper to buy mats yourself and hand them over than to pay a crafter's markup on the same stack.
How much commission should I add?
It's entirely server-dependent, so watch the public order board for a few minutes before posting. Low-effort items with reagents supplied fill for a token tip. Endgame crafted gear where the crafter is burning skill resources or concentration routinely runs into the thousands of gold, and that's a fair ask, not a scam.
If your public order has sat for an hour with nothing happening, the commission is the usual culprit. Cancel, raise it, repost.
Why can't a crafter fill my order?
Three common reasons: your minimum quality is set above what they can reliably hit, the recipe needs a specialization they haven't invested in, or you've locked a reagent slot in a way the recipe doesn't accept. Drop the quality requirement one tier and it usually goes through.
Can I order a recraft instead of a new item?
Yes. A recraft order sends an existing item to a crafter so they can attempt a better quality result or swap the optional reagents on it. Choose the recraft option, select the item from your bags, and post it the same way.
