The character boost is tied to the top-tier pre-order edition of Midnight, not the base one, and it unlocks the moment your pre-purchase completes — months before launch day. It takes one character on your account instantly to the current level cap and hands it a basic set of gear, bags and a little gold to get started.
Midnight pre-order boost: the quick facts
- Which edition: the boost has shipped with the highest-tier expansion edition in recent releases (the Epic edition for The War Within and Dragonflight). Base and mid-tier editions have not included one. Confirm on the official shop page before you buy, since Blizzard finalises edition contents closer to release.
- When it activates: immediately after the pre-purchase goes through. You do not wait for the expansion to go live, and you do not need to log in on launch day to claim it.
- Where to use it: on the character select screen. Pick an existing low-level character or create a fresh one, then apply the boost from the button on that screen.
- What the boosted character gets: the level, a full set of level-appropriate quest-grade gear, starter bags and a small gold stipend. Nothing raid-ready.
- What it does not give you: current-season gear, renown or reputation, campaign progress, flying, or maxed professions.
- Limit: one boost per pre-order, and it cannot be used on a character already at or above the boost level.
Do I get the boost right away, or on launch day?
Right away. That is the whole point of the pre-order boost: it is the one item in the bundle you can use the same evening you buy. Cosmetics and in-game extras in the same edition usually unlock immediately too, while zone and story content stays locked until the expansion launches.
What level does the Midnight boost take a character to?
Blizzard has consistently set the pre-order boost at the level cap that is live when you use it, so a boost bought before Midnight opens puts your character at the current War Within cap of 80. If the boost level or edition list for Midnight differs from that pattern, the official product page is the only source worth trusting — do not go by third-party numbers, including mine.
Should I use it on a main or an alt?
Almost always an alt, and almost always a class you have never played. Your main is already at cap, so the boost is wasted on it. The best use is opening a second role for the new season — a tank or healer alt, or a class you want ready for the first weeks of Midnight without grinding it from scratch.
One warning: a boosted character is level-capped but functionally naked. Expect a few days of catch-up gearing, professions from zero, and no reputation. Plan for that before you boost something you want to raid on in week one.
Is a boosted character ready for raids or Mythic+?
No. The gear the boost hands out sits far below entry requirements for current group content. You will need a full catch-up loop first: world quests, the season's crafting currency, delves or heroic dungeons, then the weekly cadence. Budget one to two weeks of casual play, or a focused weekend if you know the route.
If you would rather skip the grind between the boost and being genuinely raid-ready, PewPewShop can help with that stretch: coaching and play-together sessions with vetted human players, Power Leveling from EUR 18.4, or a Catch-Up Gear Package from EUR 28 to get a fresh boosted alt out of quest greens. No bots, no cheats — just experienced players covering the boring part so you start Midnight on the content you actually want to play.
