The Battleground Blitz cutoff is the rating needed for the end-of-season Strategist title, awarded to the top 0.5% of rated Blitz players in your region. It is a percentile, not a fixed number, so the cutoff moves week to week as the ladder fills up. Check the current value on the in-game PvP tab tooltip or a ladder tracker before the season closes, because the final number is only locked when the season ends.
Quick facts: how the Blitz cutoff works
- What it decides: the Strategist title for the season (the Blitz equivalent of Gladiator in 3v3 and Legend in Solo Shuffle).
- Who qualifies: the top 0.5% of rated Battleground Blitz players, calculated per region (EU and NA have separate cutoffs).
- Why it moves: as more people play and rating inflates, the line rises; it usually climbs fastest in the first weeks and again in the final days as people push.
- Where to check: open the PvP tab, hover your Blitz rating — the tooltip shows the current title cutoff. Third-party ladder trackers also show it and update daily.
- What counts: only rated Battleground Blitz. Rated Battlegrounds (10v10) and arena ratings are tracked separately and do not feed into Strategist.
Fixed rating brackets in Battleground Blitz
Unlike the Strategist cutoff, the ranked tiers below sit at fixed numbers every season. These are what most players actually chase, because they unlock cosmetics and achievements without depending on where the ladder finishes.
| Tier | Rating |
| Combatant I / II | 1000 / 1200 |
| Challenger I / II | 1400 / 1600 |
| Rival I / II | 1800 / 2000 |
| Duelist | 2100 |
| Elite | 2400 |
Each tier has its own achievement, and the higher brackets unlock the seasonal elite transmog pieces and weapon illusions. Reaching a tier once is enough — you keep the reward even if your rating drops later.
What rating do I need for Strategist right now?
There is no single answer, because it is a percentile. The honest method: hover your Blitz rating in the PvP tab today and read the tooltip, then assume the line will rise before the season ends. Sitting exactly on the cutoff on the last day is risky; players who earn the title reliably aim to finish comfortably above it and keep playing through the final week to stay there.
Also note that the cutoff differs by region. A number that is safely above the line on one region can be under it on another, so ignore screenshots from players on a different region.
Does Blitz rating carry over to Rated Battlegrounds or arena?
No. Battleground Blitz has its own rating and its own ladder. Rated Battlegrounds (the 10v10 premade mode) use a separate rating with the Hero of the Alliance / Hero of the Horde titles at the top, and arena brackets have Gladiator. The tier achievements (Combatant through Elite) are earned separately in each bracket too, so a 2000 Blitz rating gives you Rival in Blitz only.
How is Battleground Blitz different from Rated Battlegrounds?
Blitz is 8v8 with a solo or duo queue: you press the button, the game builds two teams, and matches are shorter because objectives are tuned for a quicker pace. Rated Battlegrounds are 10v10 with a full premade group, longer matches and voice comms as the norm. Blitz is the faster route to a rating for players without a fixed team, which is why the Strategist cutoff is the one most people ask about.
When does the Blitz cutoff become final?
Only when the season ends. Until then every value you see is provisional. The title is granted during the end-of-season rollover, and you must still be above the cutoff at that moment — not just at some point during the season. The safest plan is to hit your target rating early, then keep enough games going in the last two weeks to stay above the line as it rises.
