No — in WoW Classic you cannot mail or trade gold to a character on a different realm. Gold, items and mail all stay locked inside a single realm, and there is no in-game transfer, auction house or currency bridge between servers. The only sanctioned way gold changes realms is a paid character transfer, which carries the character's own gold under a cap.
Cross-faction is the more interesting half of the question, because the answer there is also no — but for a different reason, and with a well-known workaround players have used since 2004.
What can and can't move
| Action | Possible? |
| Mail gold to another realm | No — mail only reaches characters on the same realm |
| Trade gold face-to-face across realms | No — you can't be in the same world with them |
| Mail gold to your own alt, same realm, same faction | Yes — instant, no fee |
| Mail gold Alliance to Horde | No — cross-faction mail is blocked |
| Move gold via paid character transfer | Yes — up to a gold cap Blizzard sets per transfer |
| Neutral auction house (Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, Everlook) | Yes — the classic cross-faction workaround, same realm only |
How do you move gold to another faction on the same realm?
Use a neutral auction house. Booty Bay, Gadgetzan and Everlook host goblin auctioneers that both factions can reach. One side posts a cheap, common item at the price they want to move; the other side buys it. The gold lands in the seller's mailbox.
Expect a cut. The neutral AH charges a much steeper deposit and cut than a faction house — plan on losing a noticeable slice on every pass, and split large sums across several listings so nobody snipes your item first. Coordinate the exact item name and posting time, because anyone can buy it.
Does a paid character transfer bring my gold with me?
Yes, up to a limit. Blizzard applies a gold cap to character transfers that scales with character level, and anything above it is left behind or refunded to the origin realm. Check the cap on the transfer screen before you commit — it changes over time and differs between Classic flavours. Bags and bank contents travel with the character; guild banks, mail in transit and auctions in progress do not.
Are there restrictions I should know before transferring?
A few standard ones apply: you generally can't transfer while carrying mail or active auctions, you may hit a cooldown before transferring that character again, and some realms are locked as destinations when they're over-populated. Clear your mailbox, cancel auctions, and empty your guild bank before you start.
What about Season of Discovery, Hardcore and Era realms?
Same rule everywhere: gold does not cross realms in-game. On top of that, each Classic flavour is its own economy — an SoD realm and an Era realm are not interchangeable destinations, and Hardcore has its own transfer rules tied to how deaths are handled. Treat every realm's gold as a separate currency.
