WoW Classic PvP gear is bought with Honor points and battleground Marks of Honor from faction quartermasters — never with gold. Alliance players shop in the Champions' Hall in Stormwind's Old Town; Horde players use the Hall of Legends behind Orgrimmar's Valley of Strength. Individual battlegrounds also have their own quartermasters selling rings, trinkets and set pieces for that zone's Marks.
Where to buy PvP gear
- Alliance hub: Champions' Hall, Old Town, Stormwind — main honor set vendors plus a repair NPC.
- Horde hub: Hall of Legends, Valley of Strength, Orgrimmar — same layout, mirrored vendors.
- Warsong Gulch: quartermasters in Ashenvale (Silverwing Sentinels) and the Barrens (Warsong Outriders).
- Arathi Basin: quartermasters in Arathi Highlands, near each faction's base camp.
- Alterac Valley: quartermasters in Hillsbrad Foothills / Alterac, close to the battleground entrances.
How the purchase actually works
- Queue a battleground from the PvP window or a battlemaster in a capital city.
- Earn Honor from kills and objectives, and one Mark of Honor per match (three for a win in original Classic rules).
- Check the rank requirement on the item — most honor set pieces are gated behind a PvP rank, and the ranks scale steeply.
- Travel to the matching quartermaster and buy the piece. The currency is deducted instantly; there is no gold cost and no auction house route.
What it costs in real time
Cheap accessories — Warsong or Arathi rings, cloaks and trinkets — usually land after a handful of wins, so a weekend of casual play covers them. Full honor sets are the expensive end: they demand sustained rank grinding, which historically meant many hours per week for weeks on end, because rank decays if you stop.
Can you buy WoW Classic PvP gear with gold?
No. Every PvP vendor takes Honor, Marks, or both. Gold only touches PvP gear indirectly — repairs, consumables, and enchants for the pieces you already earned.
What PvP gear should I buy first?
Buy the battleground accessories before the armor set. Rings, cloaks and trinkets from Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin cost only Marks, carry no rank requirement, and give a bigger stat jump per hour spent than chasing early set pieces.
Do Marks of Honor expire?
Marks sit in your bags as normal items and don't decay. Your rank is the thing that decays — take a long break and you slide down, which is why players push rank in concentrated bursts rather than casually.
Where do Season of Discovery and Era differ?
The vendor locations are the same, but SoD adjusts availability and rank pacing as phases roll out. Always read the item tooltip on your own realm before committing Marks — requirements have shifted between phases.
If the rank grind is the part you'd rather skip, PewPewShop can help: vetted human players offer coaching and rent-a-pro play-together sessions for battlegrounds and arena — real players, no bots, no cheats, and a long clean record. You learn the map calls and target priority while your Honor actually moves. Worth a look if your playtime is limited and you'd rather spend it in good games than in a queue treadmill.
