Sha'tar reputation comes almost entirely from the three Tempest Keep dungeons: The Mechanar, The Botanica and The Arcatraz. Trash mobs pay reputation only until Honored, while bosses keep paying all the way to Exalted, and heroic runs are worth far more per kill. A handful of Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley quests top you up. Almaador in Shattrath is the quartermaster.
The quick version
- Run normal Mechanar, Botanica and Arcatraz from level 70 (Arcatraz needs its key). Trash plus bosses carries you to Honored quickly.
- Buy the Warpforged Key from Almaador at Honored — he stands in the Terrace of Light in Shattrath, near A'dal. That key opens the heroic versions of all three wings.
- Switch to heroics. Once trash stops paying, boss kills are your entire income, and heroic bosses give the biggest chunks. This is where Revered and Exalted actually happen.
- Clean up the quests. Netherstorm and the Sha'tar camp in Shadowmoon Valley hand out a limited set of one-time quests that award Sha'tar reputation, plus the dungeon quests tied to Tempest Keep.
- Do not wait for a tabard. The dungeon-tabard reputation system is a Wrath feature; in TBC Classic there is no Sha'tar tabard and no repeatable token turn-in, so runs and quests are the only engine.
What is the fastest way to grind Sha'tar reputation?
Chain-run heroic Tempest Keep with a group that clears fast. Because trash stops counting at Honored, a slow full-clear is worth exactly the same as a boss-rush once you cross that line — so the fastest route is a geared group that skips optional packs and kills bosses back to back.
Before Honored, the opposite is true: normal runs where you pull generously are efficient, since every trash pack still pays. Mechanar is usually the quickest of the three to reset and repeat.
Do I need Sha'tar rep for heroic Tempest Keep?
Yes. The Warpforged Key requires Honored with The Sha'tar and is sold by Almaador. Without it, nobody in the group can open the heroic difficulty for Mechanar, Botanica or Arcatraz — though only one person actually needs to own the key to set the instance.
The Arcatraz has a separate requirement on top: the Key to the Arcatraz, assembled from two halves that drop in Mechanar and Botanica and finished in Shattrath.
What do you get at Exalted with the Sha'tar?
Almaador's stock opens up as you climb: gear and crafting designs at Revered and Exalted, plus the standard reputation discount from faction vendors. For most players the real prize is the Honored key that unlocks heroic Tempest Keep, since those heroics feed badge gear and pre-raid upgrades.
Does picking Aldor or Scryer affect Sha'tar rep?
No. The Sha'tar are a separate faction with their own bar. Choosing Aldor or Scryers tanks the opposite faction's reputation, but leaves your Sha'tar standing untouched — you can max all three paths over time.
If the grind is the part you would rather skip, PewPewShop's Classic Dungeon Boost starts from EUR 10.5 and simply puts a vetted human player in the group with you for the Tempest Keep runs — coaching and progression help, no bots and no cheats. Plenty of players use it just to get past the Honored wall and then finish the rest themselves.
