WoW: Forever has no language servers. The game is realmless: you pick a ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore after launch), and inside it you set a language preference, so the players you meet in the world share your language. German, French and English players all live in the same ruleset ecosystem, sorted by that preference rather than by a realm list.
Quick facts: language and grouping in WoW: Forever
- No realm selection. Blizzard's Deep Dive panel (September 13, 2026) confirmed Forever is realmless. You never pick a server; you pick a ruleset.
- Four rulesets: Normal (PvP only by mutual consent), PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore, which arrives after launch.
- Language preference is a setting, not a ruleset. It is chosen by the player; Blizzard's wording is that you "meet others who share it."
- Each ruleset is its own large ecosystem — not one giant realm — with no cross-ruleset grouping. Factions stay separate.
- Names are unique per region and made of a Main Name plus a Secondary Name (for example "Ana Forever").
- Launch: November 4, 2026, 3 p.m. Pacific, worldwide, included with an active subscription or Game Time. Beta runs September 17 – October 21 (level 30 cap).
Is there a German or French ruleset in WoW: Forever?
No, and there does not need to be one. Rulesets are about rules (PvP on or off, roleplay, hardcore), not about language. A German player who wants open-world PvP picks the PvP ruleset and sets German as their language preference; a French player who wants the same rules does the same with French. Both exist inside the same PvP ecosystem, and the language preference is what steers who they run into.
That is a real change from Classic, where a German-speaking player had to choose a German realm and give up the ability to group with friends on English realms in the same region. In Forever the ruleset choice and the language choice are decoupled.
Can I change my language preference later?
Blizzard has not published the details: whether the setting is per character or per account, how often it can be changed, or exactly how it affects chat channels, the auction house and dungeon groups is unknown at this point. What is confirmed is that it is a preference, not a permanent realm-style lock. If you want a firm answer before you commit to a ruleset, Blizzard's live WoW Q&A on September 17, 2026 (18:00 BST / 10:00 PDT, official Warcraft Twitch and YouTube) is the place player questions on Forever are being answered, and a VOD follows.
Can I play with friends who speak a different language?
The only hard wall Blizzard described is the ruleset: there is no cross-ruleset grouping, and Hardcore is enclosed. Language preference was presented as a way to meet compatible players, not as a wall between them, so a mixed German-and-English friend group on the same ruleset should not be blocked by it. Whether you need matching preferences to see each other in the open world, or only for automatic contact, has not been spelled out, so treat this as "same ruleset first, language second" until Blizzard clarifies.
What about Classic Plus language servers people talk about?
"Classic Plus" and "Classic+" are community shorthand for Forever itself, so any list of "Classic Plus language servers" you see is speculation from before the BlizzCon 2026 reveal. Since the official announcement, there is no server list to publish: every player chooses a ruleset and a language preference, and that is the whole selection.
What still counts as unknown
- Which regions exist and how many ecosystems each ruleset runs.
- Whether language preference filters chat channels, the auction house, or the group finder specifically.
- Whether existing Classic, Era, Anniversary or Season of Discovery characters carry anything into Forever.
- Hardcore rules beyond "enclosed ruleset, arrives after launch, dead characters can transfer out."
