12.1.7 Lorewalking and Talebound rewards at a glance
Patch 12.1.7 has two separate reward sources: new Lorewalking stories that give book decor, and the Talebound mode, which gives a mount and probably a toy. Everything below comes from the PTR and can change before release.
| Reward | Source | Type | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Readable lore book (one per story) | Four new Lorewalking stories | Housing decor | On the PTR |
| Readable versions of older Lorewalking decor | Earlier Lorewalking campaigns | Housing decor | Live since 12.1.5 |
| Retroactive decor grant | Lorewalking campaigns you finished before they gave decor | Housing decor | Already granted |
| Shadowbound Storybook | Talebound | Mount | On the PTR |
| Hexed Tiny Tome | Talebound (datamined drop) | Toy | Datamined, not confirmed |
| Four XP potions (+30% for 2 hours, Warband-bound) | Named after the Talebound stories | Consumable | Datamined, not confirmed |
- Patch status: on the PTR as of October 25-26. Blizzard has not announced a release date.
- How many new books: four, one for each new story.
- Readable: you can open the book once it is placed and read the lore inside. It is not just a prop.
- Requirement: to place decor you need a home. Claiming a house or joining a neighborhood requires Midnight.
What Lorewalking decor is and why the books matter
Lorewalking decor is the housing reward for finishing a Lorewalking story, the replayable mode where you play through a chapter of Warcraft history. In 12.1.7 the reward for each new story is a book that works like an in-game reader when it sits in your house.
That is why this decor gets more attention than most. Housing pieces are usually furniture you look at. A book you can open turns a shelf into a small story library for anyone who visits your plot.
Blizzard set this up in 12.1.5, when the older Lorewalking decor rewards became readable. So 12.1.7 adds to a collection that already exists.
Weapon Appearance HuntLegendary and artifact weapon looks unlocked.from 54 EURGet it doneHow do you get the 12.1.7 readable book decor?
Finish each of the four new Lorewalking stories once 12.1.7 goes live. Each completed story rewards its own book. Nothing here points to a rare drop, so finishing the story is the whole requirement.
The story titles and their exact order are PTR content and have not been finalized. Treat any list you see now as provisional.
Is the Hexed Tiny Tome a Lorewalking reward?
No. The Hexed Tiny Tome is a toy that the datamined files list as a drop from Talebound, not from Lorewalking. It is not confirmed yet.
Going by the datamining, it likely lets your companion pet follow you while riding a small enchanted book, in the same spirit as the Magical Saucer toy. Blizzard has not described how it works, so the final version could look or behave differently.
What is Talebound in patch 12.1.7?
Talebound is a new standalone roguelite mode coming in 12.1.7. You pick one of three classes and start in the town of Quillgrave. It also has four titles to earn.
Talebound is the source of the Shadowbound Storybook mount and of the datamined Hexed Tiny Tome. The storybook theme connects it to Lorewalking, but the two modes reward different things. Lorewalking gives the decor. Talebound gives the mount and the toy.
Do old Lorewalking campaigns still give decor?
Yes. Earlier Lorewalking campaigns have their own decor, and that decor became readable in 12.1.5. Players who had finished a campaign before it gave decor received the reward retroactively, so going back to completed campaigns should not be necessary.
If you never played the older stories, playing them is the simplest way to fill out your book collection before the four new ones arrive.
When does patch 12.1.7 release?
Blizzard has not announced a release date for 12.1.7. The patch was on the PTR in late October, and anything shown there can change, including decor names, how many there are and whether datamined rewards like the Hexed Tiny Tome ship at all.
Some players would rather spend their limited playtime on story content and leave a raid clear or a housing unlock list to someone else. PewPewShop offers coaching and play-together help from vetted human players, plus a Player Housing Setup service for Midnight unlocks and decor.
Frequently asked questions
What is Lorewalking in WoW?
Lorewalking is a replayable story mode where you play through important chapters of Warcraft history. Finishing a Lorewalking campaign gives a housing decor reward, and since patch 12.1.5 those decor pieces are readable books you can open inside your house.
How many Lorewalking stories are in patch 12.1.7?
The 12.1.7 PTR adds four new Lorewalking stories. Each one rewards its own readable lore book as housing decor. The content is still on the test realm and could change before Blizzard releases the patch.
Is the Hexed Tiny Tome toy confirmed?
No. The Hexed Tiny Tome was found by datamining the 12.1.7 PTR and is listed as a drop from Talebound. It likely lets your companion pet follow you while riding a small flying book, but Blizzard has not confirmed it.
Did I lose Lorewalking decor from campaigns I finished earlier?
No. Players who had completed Lorewalking campaigns before those campaigns gave decor received the reward retroactively. Check your housing decor storage, because the books should already be there.
Do I need Midnight to use Lorewalking decor?
Players without Midnight can collect housing items, but you need any edition of Midnight to claim a home or join a neighborhood. Without a house, you can still collect decor, but you have nowhere to place it.
What rewards does Talebound give?
Talebound, the new roguelite mode in patch 12.1.7, has four titles and the Shadowbound Storybook mount. Datamining also lists the Hexed Tiny Tome toy as a drop. All of this is PTR information and may change.
