The Legacy system in WoW: Forever is Blizzard's account-wide progression layer: perks you earn on one character that make leveling your next characters easier. Blizzard confirmed only that much at BlizzCon 2026 — the exact bonuses, how you unlock them and whether anything crosses from Classic Era are not yet published. Forever launches November 4, 2026, level cap 60.

That table is the honest state of things. Blizzard put Legacy on the systems slide next to Camping, updated professions, a reworked Honor system and updated riding skill, and gave it a one-line description. Nobody outside Blizzard has seen the numbers yet. If a site is quoting exact XP percentages or a list of Legacy rewards today, treat it as guesswork.

Not necessarily. Heirlooms are Modern WoW's item-based approach to alt leveling. Blizzard described Forever's Legacy as account-wide perks, without saying whether those perks are items, passive bonuses, unlocks or some mix. It is fair to say the goal overlaps with heirlooms — reward players who level a second, third or fourth character — but the delivery may be different, and the beta (September 17 – October 21, capped at level 30) is where the first real answers will surface.
Why does an alt system matter in a game stuck at level 60?
Because 60 is the whole game. Forever has no level scaling, no flying and no expansions, so every new character does the full 1–60 walk through Zephras Isle or the classic starts, the Riverglades at 30–45, and the old-world zones on the way to Mount Hyjal. Blizzard added two new class combos — Forsaken Paladin and Dwarf Shaman — plus the Skyborne race with its own Druid forms, which is a strong pull to reroll. Legacy is the part of the design meant to keep that second trip from feeling like a chore. New raids, dungeons and playable areas arrive by patch, so the alt you level today keeps its relevance.
Will my Classic Era characters give me Legacy perks?
Unknown, and worth stating plainly: Blizzard has not said what happens to Classic Era, Anniversary or Season of Discovery realms, and has not announced anything carrying over between game versions. Plan as if you start from zero on November 4 and let any cross-version bonus be a pleasant surprise rather than an assumption.
When does Blizzard expand the Legacy system?
The published roadmap puts professions and Legacy updates in Summer 2027, alongside a revamped iconic raid, a new raid, two new dungeons and a PvP season refresh. Spring 2027 comes first with two raids, two dungeons, a new legendary questline and new questing space. So the version of Legacy you see at launch is the first pass, not the final one.
How to get ready for Legacy before launch
- Pick your main first — Legacy rewards leveling more characters, so the first 1–60 is the foundation. Boosters currently quote 2–3 weeks for a full 1–60 at launch.
- Reserve names early: October 27 – November 3, up to three characters, with any upgrade pack.
- If you want the Skyborne race, you need the Skyborne Heroic Pack (EUR 29.99 on the EU Battle.net shop) or higher.
- Watch the beta window for the first concrete Legacy numbers, then decide which alt goes second.
