A campfire in WoW: Forever lasts 10 minutes and the player who lit it is on a 1-hour cooldown before they can place another one. You cannot build a campfire inside a city or right next to somebody else's fire. The buffs you pick up while sitting at a campsite last one hour, so they outlive the fire itself — only the campsite vanishes after ten minutes, not what it gave you.

How camping works in Forever

  • The old Cooking Fire becomes the Basic Campfire. Any player can craft one; it is no longer just a place to cook.
  • A campsite gives rest, vendors, repairs and profession workspaces. Sit by the fire and you become rested, the same way you would in an inn.
  • Other players nearby can add crafted objects to your fire — up to three on a Basic Campfire, one object per player, on a shared one-hour cooldown.
  • Every profession has three objects at different skill levels, each with its own buff: the Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel (Attack Power), the Tailor's Faction Banner (Spirit), the Herbalist's Incense Candle (Intellect). These are variants of class buffs and do not stack with them.
  • The first objects unlock at profession skill 20 from camping NPCs or trainers. Advanced ones — an Alchemy Lab, a Tanning Rack (needed for advanced Leatherworking) — come from Blueprint recipes dropped by specific dungeon bosses.

Can you camp in cities in WoW: Forever?

No. Per the interview recaps, campfires cannot be placed inside cities. That makes sense given what a campsite replaces: cities already have inns, vendors and repair NPCs, and the campfire is Blizzard's way of bringing those comforts into the open world during long leveling stretches.

The same rule blocks a campfire placed right next to an existing one. If you want to share buffs with a group, join the fire that is already burning rather than lighting a second one beside it — one player lights, everyone adds their object.

Do the campfire buffs run out when the fire does?

Not according to what Blizzard has shown. The fire burns for 10 minutes, but the buffs you gain by resting at it are one-hour buffs. Think of the campsite as a short window to collect what you need — rested state, a repair, a profession buff — and then move on with the effect still ticking.

One catch: the profession-object buffs are variants of familiar class buffs and do not stack with them. If a Paladin in your group is already handing out a matching blessing, the Sharpening Wheel will not double it.

Why is the campfire cooldown one hour?

Blizzard has not published the reasoning, but the design is visible: a 10-minute fire with a 1-hour cooldown lines up with the one-hour buffs it hands out. Once your buff runs down, your cooldown is about done too, so a solo player can refresh roughly once an hour while a group can rotate who lights the fire and keep a camp going far more often.

Do you need Cooking to build a campfire?

The Basic Campfire replaces the Cooking Fire, and Blizzard describes it as something players build as part of the camping system rather than a Cooking-only tool. What Cooking does add is upgraded campfires that hold five or ten crafted objects instead of three, which is the version a full group will want. The exact skill level those upgrades require has not been published.

What is still unknown

  • Whether the 10-minute timer or the 1-hour cooldown differ across the Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore rulesets.
  • Whether campfires are allowed inside dungeons, or only in the outdoor world.
  • The full list of Blueprint recipes and which dungeon bosses drop them.
  • Any Legacy perk that shortens the campfire cooldown — none has been confirmed.

If you would rather have the profession side handled — the skill-20 unlock for your first campfire object, or a full 1–300 push — PewPewShop's vetted human players offer Forever Profession Leveling 1–300 from EUR 29 and Cooking, First Aid & Fishing from EUR 39 as pre-orders ahead of the November 4 launch, so your campsite is useful from the first week.
