Blizzard has not published Warrior-specific changes for WoW: Forever yet. What is confirmed: every class and specialization is being revamped, and talents are moving away from +1–2% filler points. So the Classic Fury/Prot hybrid tank (Fury damage talents plus deep Protection for Shield Slam and mitigation) is neither confirmed nor removed — treat it as unknown until Blizzard's class deep dives or the September 17 live Q&A.
Quick facts: Warrior tanking and WoW: Forever
- Confirmed: all nine Classic classes return, all specs are revamped, and the talent trees drop the small percentage fillers that shaped the old 31/20 and 20/31 Warrior builds.
- Confirmed: level cap is 60 permanently, so Warrior tanks stay in the Classic gearing and stat model, whatever the talents become.
- Unknown: whether the Fury/Prot hybrid still beats deep Protection for threat, whether dual-wield tanking becomes viable, or how rage generation changes.
- Unknown: boss lists and loot for the nine new dungeons and the Barrow Deeps / Hyjal Summit raids, so tanking gear paths cannot be planned yet.
- Where the answer comes from: Blizzard's WoW Q&A on September 17, 2026 (18:00 BST / 10:00 PDT, official Warcraft Twitch and YouTube) and the beta running September 17 – October 21 (capped at level 30).
- Launch: November 4, 2026, 3 p.m. Pacific; raids open December 9 per the roadmap.
What the Fury tank actually is
In original and Classic WoW, the go-to raid tank was not deep Protection. It was a Warrior in Defensive Stance with enough Protection for Shield Slam or Defiance and the rest poured into Fury for Cruelty, Improved Battle Shout and Flurry. Threat came from crit-fed rage and Heroic Strike spam; mitigation came from gear and Defense skill more than talents. That build only worked because the trees were stuffed with small passive percentages — exactly the design Blizzard says Forever is moving away from.
That is why the honest answer is a maybe. If filler points disappear, the reason to split trees changes too. Blizzard has only shown one class in detail so far (Paladin gets a tanking seal, more group healing and a full Retribution suite). Warrior is still in the dark.
Will Protection Warrior be the main tank in WoW: Forever?
Nothing published says so, and nothing says otherwise. Blizzard framed the revamp as making every spec worth playing, and Paladins receiving a dedicated tanking seal suggests tanking will be shared across more classes than in Classic. For a Warrior main, the practical read is: expect Protection to be a real spec rather than a five-point dip, and wait for the Warrior reveal before locking in a leveling plan.
Can I level as Fury and tank dungeons on the way to 60?
In Classic, yes — most Warriors leveled Fury or Arms and swapped to a shield for dungeons like Deadmines, Scarlet Monastery and Blackrock Depths. Forever adds nine new dungeons on that same path (Hall of Thanes at 13–18, Ruins of Lordaeron 15–20, City of Dalaran 20–35, then Alcaz Prison, Shaper's Terrace and Krol'dok Stronghold for the 40–60 stretch). Whether a Fury Warrior can hold threat in them depends on the revamp; no numbers exist yet.
Which races can be Warrior in WoW: Forever?
Every Classic Warrior race returns, and the new Skyborne elves can be Warriors on either faction (Windshaper for Horde, High Order for Alliance). Skyborne get Wind Blessed (+1% haste) and Elemental Insight (+5% damage to Elementals); the Horde variant adds +10% run speed, the Alliance variant faster health and mana regeneration. Orc Axe Specialization now gives critical chance, which Fury-minded Warriors will notice. The Skyborne race needs the Heroic Pack or higher.
What should a Warrior tank do before launch?
Three things. Watch the September 17 Q&A and any Warrior class reveal. Get into the beta if you own the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection — level 30 is enough to feel rage, stances and the early dungeons. And reserve your Full Name (a Main Name plus a Secondary Name) during Early Name Reservation, October 27 – November 3, if you have an upgrade pack.
If you would rather skip the grind and show up at 60 with a tank ready for the December 9 raid opening, PewPewShop takes Forever pre-orders now: vetted human players handle Power Leveling 1–60 from EUR 25 or Dungeon Leveling from EUR 40, quoting 2–3 weeks for a full 1–60 at launch, with coaching available once the Warrior changes are public.
