WoW: Forever keeps the original Azeroth but reworks specific zones: Duskwood gets a spookier look with real-time torch light, Wetlands receives new art and reworked fog, Dustwallow Marsh has its fog redone, Badlands gains lighting driven by the sun's position, and Ashenvale gets flowing water. HD and SD graphics for characters and the world are toggleable, so you can play the new lighting with old-school models if you want.
Confirmed zone-by-zone graphics changes
| Zone | What changed |
| Duskwood | Darker, spookier atmosphere; torches cast real-time light |
| Wetlands | New zone art plus reworked fog |
| Dustwallow Marsh | Fog reworked |
| Badlands | Lighting now follows the sun's position across the day |
| Ashenvale | Rivers and streams actually flow instead of sitting still |
| Whole world | HD and SD models for characters and the environment, switchable in settings |
These details come from Blizzard's BlizzCon 2026 Deep Dive recap and Wowhead's written recaps of the September 17 live Q&A and press interviews. If you are hunting for the talk people search as the "evolving a timeless world" panel, that is the material it draws on; Blizzard has not published a full list of every zone touched, so treat the table above as what is confirmed, not as the complete set.
Skyborne Start: Zephras Isle 1–12The new Skyborne starting experience completed on your character.from 15 EURGet it doneIs the whole game getting new graphics, or just a few zones?
Not a full remaster. Forever is built by the Classic team as a third WoW experience next to Modern and Classic, and the point is to keep the world recognisable. The visual work is targeted: fog, lighting and water where it adds mood, new art where a zone needed it (Wetlands), and expanded areas like Azshara with more quests. New zones — Zephras Isle, the Riverglades and Mount Hyjal — obviously get fresh art, but the old continents are updated selectively.
The HD/SD toggle is the safety valve. Per Wowhead's Q&A recap, HD and SD models share skeletons, so animations and hitboxes stay consistent whichever look you pick.
Do I need a new GPU for WoW: Forever?
The beta client requires a GPU with RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. In practice that means AMD GCN 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), Intel Skylake (2015) or newer. A Radeon HD 7850, GTX 9xx, GTX 750 Ti or Intel HD 530 will launch the game, though those are still below minimum spec. A Radeon HD 6950, GTX 760–780, GTX 8xxM or Intel HD 6000 will not. Full system requirements beyond that GPU feature have not been published yet.
Does Forever have weather and day-night like Modern WoW?
Partly, and only where Blizzard has said so. Badlands is the confirmed example of sun-position lighting — the light angle changes as the in-game day moves. Fog was rebuilt for Wetlands and Dustwallow, and Duskwood's torch light reacts in real time. Whether every zone gets dynamic weather or a global day-night lighting pass has not been stated, so don't assume it.
Can I see the new zones before launch?
Yes, in the beta running September 17 – October 21, 2026. Instant access comes with the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection; everyone else can opt in for invitation waves. Week 1 opens all zones up to level 20 (cap rises to 30 later), so Duskwood, Wetlands and Ashenvale are reachable early. Install it via the Battle.net app: World of Warcraft → Game Version → "World of Warcraft: Forever Beta". Launch is November 4, 2026 at 3 p.m. Pacific, included with a normal subscription.
If you would rather skip the early grind and get straight to the reworked zones at 60, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer Forever leveling as pre-orders until launch — Forever Leveling 1–30 from EUR 13, or the Launch-Ready Pack (1–60 + pre-raid gear + 500g) from EUR 219 — as coaching or play-together, no bots.
