Every character in WoW: Forever has a two-part name: a Main Name (first name) plus a Secondary Name (last name), and both must be chosen at creation. The Full Name — Blizzard's own example is "Ana Forever" — is unique per region, not per server, because Forever has no realms. Whether other players see your last name is a settings toggle; the first name always shows.

Because Forever is realmless. Instead of choosing a server you choose a ruleset — Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore after launch — and each ruleset is a large ecosystem rather than one small realm. With hundreds of thousands of players sharing one namespace per region, single names would run out on day one. Two parts multiply the combinations, so "Ana" is still available to plenty of people as long as their last names differ.
The display toggle keeps chat and nameplates from looking like a phone book: if you only want "Ana" floating above your head, you hide the Secondary Name and it still exists for uniqueness purposes.
Is the last name unique on its own, or only the full combination?
Blizzard has only stated that the Full Name is unique per region. That reads as the combination being unique — two players named "Thrall Forever" would clash, but "Thrall Forever" and "Thrall Riverglade" would not. Whether a Secondary Name can be reserved exclusively (a family name only you can use) is unknown; nothing in the announcement suggests that, so plan for the pair, not the surname.
How do I reserve my Forever name before launch?
- Own any Forever upgrade pack — the Skyborne Heroic Pack (€29.99 on the EU Battle.net shop as of September 12) is the cheapest route; the Epic Pack and the Warcraft Forever Collection also qualify.
- Log in between October 27 and November 3, 2026 and create up to three characters; names are first come, first served.
- Pick the ruleset you actually intend to play, since you are choosing an ecosystem, not a server you can hop off later.
- Have three or four first/last combinations ready; the first name you want will likely be taken as a Full Name by someone, but a different last name frees it.
Without a pack you create characters on November 4 at 3 p.m. Pacific alongside everyone else. Forever itself costs nothing extra — the pack only buys the head start, the Skyborne race and cosmetics.
Does the name carry over between rulesets or from Classic?
Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets (except Hardcore, which only lets progress flow out). Names are a different question: Blizzard has not said whether one reserved Full Name blocks the same name on another ruleset, or whether anything from Classic Era, Anniversary or Season of Discovery transfers into Forever. Until that is confirmed, assume each Forever character is created fresh and named fresh.
If you would rather spend launch week playing than grinding the early levels after you have locked in the name you want, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer Forever leveling as pre-orders — Leveling 1–30 from EUR 13, or the Launch-Ready Pack (1–60, pre-raid gear and 500 gold) from EUR 219 — played as coaching or play-together sessions, no bots, long zero-ban record.
