WoW: Forever and Classic Hardcore share the same 1–60 skeleton but are different games. Classic Hardcore is the original vanilla content with one life per character: death is permanent. Forever, launching November 4, 2026, keeps the level-60 cap for good but adds three new zones, nine dungeons, two raids and the Skyborne race — and Blizzard says a Hardcore mode is coming to Forever, though its rules were not published at the announcement.

What actually separates them

  • Classic Hardcore is a ruleset, not new content. You play the vanilla world everyone knows, and the tension comes from the one-life rule. If your character dies, that character's run is over — the standard option is moving it to a regular Classic Era realm.
  • Forever is new content, not a ruleset. Built by the Classic team and set in WoW's first year, it adds Zephras Isle (Skyborne 1–12 start), the Riverglades (30–45, 150+ quests, a neutral goblin port) and Mount Hyjal (endgame), plus expanded Shen'dralar content around Dire Maul, Maraudon and Razorfen Downs.
  • Both end at 60. Hardcore because that is vanilla; Forever because Blizzard is keeping 60 as the cap and delivering new raids in patches. The first raid unlock is December 9, 2026: Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) and the 40-player Onyxia's Lair together.
  • Dungeons. Every classic dungeon returns in Forever, joined by nine new ones — Hall of Thanes under Ironforge, Ruins of Lordaeron, City of Dalaran, an Excavation site in the Wetlands, Drowned City, Blackmaw Hold, Alcaz Prison, Shaper's Terrace and Krol'dok Stronghold. Boss lists and loot are not public yet.
  • Realms. Blizzard has not said what happens to existing Classic Era, Hardcore or Anniversary realms, and nothing carries over between versions has been confirmed. Treat any claim otherwise as a guess.

Will WoW: Forever have Hardcore?

Yes, according to Blizzard — Hardcore is coming to Forever. What is not known is the how: whether it launches on day one, whether dead characters can be moved anywhere, and whether the one-life rules match today's Classic Hardcore. If you want a Forever "one life" run on November 4, wait for the official rules before planning around it.

Is Forever the same as Classic Plus?

Effectively, yes. "Classic Plus" and "Classic+" were the community's shorthand for a vanilla that keeps growing without expansions, and Forever is Blizzard's version of that idea: level 60 forever, new zones and raids in patches, a Spring 2027 update with two more raids and two dungeons, and a Summer 2027 update with a revamped iconic raid. Earlier leaks and fan wish lists are not part of the game; only what Blizzard published counts.

Which one is harder?

Hardcore is harder by design — one mistake ends the run, so cautious play, safe pulls and travel routing matter more than gear. Forever's leveling difficulty is not yet measurable: classes and talents are revamped and there is no level scaling, so old "safe" pulls may play differently. The Legacy system also makes alts easier over time with account-wide rested-XP and reputation perks.

Can I play both?

Yes. Forever is a third experience next to Modern and Classic, included with an active subscription or Game Time, so nothing stops you keeping a Hardcore character alive while rolling a Skyborne on November 4. The beta (September 17 – October 21) is capped at level 30 and needs the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.

If you would rather have a vetted human pro handle the grind, PewPewShop offers Forever pre-orders until launch — coached and play-together leveling from EUR 13 for 1–30, dungeon runs from EUR 16, or a Launch-Ready Pack (1–60, pre-raid gear and 500g) from EUR 219 — with raid clears from December 9. Boosters quote 2–3 weeks for a full 1–60 at launch.
