WoW: Forever is the permanent Classic+ version of World of Warcraft, launching November 4, 2026, while Season of Discovery was a time-limited seasonal experiment layered on the 2019 Classic base. Forever locks the level cap at 60 for good, grows through patches instead of expansions, and ships three new zones, nine new dungeons and two new raids. SoD tested ideas; Forever is the version built to stay.

The short version: SoD asked "what if Classic classes had new buttons?" on a map you already knew. Forever answers a bigger question — what if the year-one game had kept getting new places to go — and does it with 1,000+ new quests, a new race, and a roadmap that already lists two more raids and two more dungeons for spring 2027.
SoD Power LevelingReach the current phase level cap on any SoD character.from 22.6 EURGet it doneIs WoW: Forever replacing Season of Discovery?
Blizzard has not said what happens to Season of Discovery, Classic Era or Anniversary realms once Forever launches. Forever was announced as a third experience alongside Modern and Classic, not as a shutdown of anything.
So treat any "SoD closes on date X" post as rumor until it shows up in an official Blizzard announcement. What is confirmed is the Forever timeline: beta September 17 – October 21 (level 30 cap), name reservation October 27 – November 3, launch November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, raids on December 9.
Do SoD characters transfer to WoW: Forever?
Nothing about characters, gold or Runes carrying over between game versions has been published, and Forever's class design is a full revamp rather than the Rune system, so a straight port would not make much sense anyway. Plan on rolling fresh.
Early name reservation lets you create up to three characters between October 27 and November 3 with any upgrade pack, first come first served. If a specific name matters to you, that window is where it gets decided.
Which one should I play right now?
If you want to see new content, Forever is the obvious pick — but you cannot play it until November 4 unless you hold the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection, which include the level-30 beta. Season of Discovery is playable today and still offers the Rune-driven class fantasy that Forever is not copying.
Honest caveat: Forever's dungeon boss lists and loot tables are not public yet, and whether Molten Core or Blackwing Lair exist at launch is unconfirmed. Anyone promising you a Forever loot list right now is guessing.
What does Forever have that SoD never did?
Systems, mostly. Camping lets you build campsites other players can join for tradeskill buffs. Legacy gives account-wide perks for leveling more characters. Transmog is opt-in per player, HD and SD graphics can be toggled, gamepad support is built in, and there is a new legendary questline. PvP adds The Darkspear Islands, a 15v15 battleground with Arathi Basin-style capture points, on top of the original battlegrounds. Hardcore is confirmed as coming, rules not yet published.
If you would rather skip the 1–60 grind or get through the new dungeons with a vetted human group, PewPewShop is taking Forever pre-orders now: leveling 1–30 from EUR 37.2, the full 1–60 from EUR 137.2 (boosters quote 2–3 weeks at launch), Dalaran or Drowned City runs from EUR 16, and Barrow Deeps clears from EUR 35 once raids open on December 9. Self-Play and coaching options, no bots, no cheats.
