You open the Great Vault in WoW Midnight by finishing at least one qualifying activity during the week — a raid boss kill, a Mythic+ or heroic dungeon, or world content like Delves — and then, after the weekly reset, clicking the Great Vault chest in the expansion's main hub city to choose one reward. It does not open at midnight; it unlocks at your region's weekly reset, once a week.

Great Vault quick facts

  • Where: the physical Vault chest in the current expansion hub city. It has its own icon on the city map, so open the map and look for the Great Vault marker rather than wandering.
  • When: at the weekly reset. North American realms reset on Tuesday morning (local time), European realms on Wednesday morning. "Midnight" in the query is the expansion name, not an opening hour.
  • What unlocks it: three rows — Raids, Dungeons and World. Each row fills as you kill raid bosses, complete dungeons (Mythic+, Mythic 0 or heroic) or clear world activities such as Delves and Delve events.
  • How many choices: up to three slots per row, nine in total, but you take exactly one item per week from everything unlocked. Unfilled slots can offer currency or crafting materials instead of gear.
  • Item level: decided by the difficulty of what you did — the highest key you timed, the raid difficulty you cleared, the tier of Delve you finished. Doing more of something raises the number of slots; doing it harder raises the item level.
  • Progress check: you can see which slots you have unlocked at any time from the Great Vault panel in the raid and dungeon interface, but you can only claim by visiting the chest itself.

Step by step: opening the Vault for the first time

  1. Reach max level on the character you want gear on. Vault rewards are per character, not account-wide.
  2. During the week, complete at least one activity in any row. A single Mythic 0 dungeon or a single Delve is enough to light up one slot.
  3. Wait for the weekly reset. Nothing you do after the reset counts for the Vault you are about to open; it counts for the next one.
  4. Travel to the hub city and interact with the Great Vault chest.
  5. Compare the offered items — the tooltip shows item level and slot — and click Select on one. You can also take the currency or material option if nothing is an upgrade.
  6. Confirm. Your new week's progress starts immediately.

When does the WoW Vault open in Midnight?

The Vault opens at the weekly reset, same as previous expansions. On North American realms that is Tuesday morning; on European realms it is Wednesday morning. Log in any time after that moment and the chest holds your rewards. There is no window that closes: if you skip a week, your unclaimed reward stays waiting until you visit, so you do not lose it.

Why is my Great Vault empty or locked?

Three usual reasons. You did nothing that qualifies this week — a normal quest or a follower dungeon does not count. You are checking before the reset, so the panel shows progress but the chest cannot be opened yet. Or you already claimed this week's reward: it is one pick per character per week, and the chest greys out afterwards. If you swapped characters, remember each one has its own Vault.

How do I get the best Vault rewards in Midnight?

Fill as many slots as you can at the highest difficulty you can manage. For most players the Dungeons row is the fastest to max out: eight timed keys give three slots, and the item level tracks your best key of the week. Raids need boss kills at the difficulty you want the gear from, so Heroic or Mythic bosses are worth more than Normal. Delves are the low-pressure option and scale nicely with tier. Mixing all three rows gives you nine slots and more chances to see the exact piece you need.

Does the Vault give tier set pieces?

Once tier sets are live in a season, raid-slot armour pieces can appear in the Vault, and items from any row can usually be converted through the season's catalyst once you have that charge. Check the tooltip before you select — set pieces are marked — and if two options are the same item level, the one that completes a set bonus is nearly always the better pick.

Need the slots filled without the grind?

If you would rather have a vetted human pro handle the weekly chores, PewPewShop runs play-together and rent-a-pro progression help for exactly this: a Weekly Vault — 8 Dungeons package from EUR 55 fills your Dungeons row for the week, and Midnight raid clears start from EUR 17.54 for the Raids row. Same reset, same one-item pick — you just log in to the hub and choose.
