Meddlesome Mages is a Horde-only quest from Illaya Amberwind in Shen'dar Village on Zephras Isle, taken around level 5-6 after Welcome to Shen'dar Village. It rewards two early relics: the Druid idol Windcharged Leaf, which cuts shapeshift cost by 40 mana, and the Shaman totem Windcarved Effigy, which reduces early Lightning Bolt mana cost by roughly 17-33%. Alliance Skyborne cannot take it.

Everything below comes from Wowhead's beta coverage of WoW: Forever, which is live in beta since September 17, 2026. Numbers on a beta can change before the November 4 launch.

How to get the relics

  1. Roll a Windshaper (Horde) Skyborne. The race needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher; only Horde Skyborne get Shaman, and every Skyborne can be a Druid with the sky-blue forms.
  2. Run the Zephras Isle 1-12 start and reach Shen'dar Village.
  3. Finish Welcome to Shen'dar Village first - it gates the follow-up.
  4. Talk to Illaya Amberwind and pick up Meddlesome Mages around level 5-6.
  5. Turn it in and take the relic that matches your class: the Leaf on a Druid, the Effigy on a Shaman.

Why does a level 6 relic matter at all?

Because early mana is the real bottleneck. A fresh Shaman spends most of a pull's mana bar on two or three Lightning Bolts, so shaving up to a third off the cost of those low ranks means an extra cast per drink break - and drink breaks are what slow 1-12 down.

Same logic on the Druid side. Forty mana is a large slice of a level 6 pool, and a Druid shifts constantly while leveling: bear to tank a pull, caster to heal, travel form between quest hubs. Cheaper shifting is cheaper questing.

Can Alliance Skyborne get an equivalent?

Not this quest - it is Horde-locked, and Alliance Skyborne cannot be Shaman at all (they get Mage instead). Whether High Order characters have a parallel relic quest somewhere on Zephras Isle has not been published, so treat it as unknown rather than confirmed missing.

If the idol matters to you on a Druid, that is a reason to roll Windshaper rather than High Order. Both Skyborne variants share Walk on Air, Wind Blessed and Elemental Insight; the Horde side adds Skysight for +10% run speed.

Is Meddlesome Mages available on the beta right now?

Yes. Zephras Isle and the Skyborne start opened in beta week one, and the beta cap starts at level 20, so a level 5-6 quest is well inside reach. Beta access comes with the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection, or through opt-in invite waves; the beta runs until October 21, 2026.

Nothing you do on the beta carries to launch. Treat the run as a rehearsal: learn the Shen'dar Village route, confirm the relic reward, then repeat it on November 4 at 3 p.m. Pacific.

What else should a new Windshaper grab early?

A level 3-4 quest in the starting zones offers a manual that teaches Herbalism, Mining or Skinning if you have fewer than two professions - free, and Legacy points later reward tradeskill milestones. Starting-zone quests also hand out bags that auto-equip.

From level 14 the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain is worth the detour: Horde start at the Burned-Out Remains in the Barrens south of Camp Taurajo, and the bag gives up to 3% bonus experience plus a 12-slot bag.

If you would rather skip the grind

Our boosters are on the Forever beta now, so we run the Zephras Isle opening with vetted human players - no bots, no cheats: Skyborne Start: Zephras Isle 1-12 is from EUR 15, and a full WoW: Forever Power Leveling 1-60 is from EUR 25 for launch day. Coaching works too if you just want someone to walk the Shen'dar Village route with you once.
