Keystone Master and the Catalyst are two different systems in Midnight, not one feature. Keystone Master is the Mythic+ achievement you earn at 2000 seasonal rating; in Season 2 it awards the Breath of Blight mount. The Catalyst is the vendor that converts non-set armor into your class tier set using weekly charges. They connect only through loot: the gear you collect while pushing to 2000 is what you convert.
Quick facts
| Keystone Master | Reach 2000 Mythic+ rating within the current season. Rating comes from your best timed run per dungeon, so every dungeon in the rotation matters. |
| Season 2 reward | Breath of Blight mount, plus the achievement. Keystone Legend at 3000 rating is the next step (Breath of Ruin). |
| The Catalyst | Converts a helm, shoulders, chest, gloves or legs from any source into the matching tier set piece. The converted item keeps its item level and upgrade track. |
| Catalyst charges | Charges are account-wide and accrue on a weekly timer once the Catalyst opens for the season, typically a few weeks after the season starts. Rating does not add charges. |
| What links them | End-of-dungeon loot and Great Vault choices from Mythic+ are prime Catalyst material, since Vault gear at higher key levels sits on a strong upgrade track. |
How to work both systems in one season
- Time the highest key you can comfortably clear in every dungeon of the season pool. Rating rewards breadth first, so one +12 in a single dungeon helps less than solid timed runs across all of them.
- Fill your Great Vault every week. Three Mythic+ slots at +10 or higher give you a Hero-or-better item to choose on reset day.
- Pick Vault items that sit in tier slots (head, shoulder, chest, hands, legs) when you are short on set bonuses. Non-tier stat sticks can be converted later.
- When the Catalyst opens, spend charges on your highest-track pieces first. The 2-piece bonus is usually a bigger jump than the 4-piece, so get to two quickly.
- Keep climbing. Tier bonuses raise your damage or healing, which makes +11 and +12 timers noticeably easier, which raises rating. It is a loop.
Does Keystone Master give extra Catalyst charges?
No. Catalyst charges are a flat weekly allowance tied to the season calendar, not to any achievement. Keystone Master, Keystone Hero and Keystone Legend change your mount, teleports and title; they do not touch your conversion budget.
The only indirect effect is loot quality. Someone at 2000+ rating is running keys that fill the Vault with better items, so their charges go further because each conversion lands on a stronger piece.
Should I convert dungeon gear or wait for raid tier drops?
Convert if the piece is already on a good upgrade track and you are missing a set bonus. A Mythic+ Vault item converted into tier is functionally the same as a raid drop of the same track, and the Catalyst does not care where the base item came from.
Waiting only makes sense early in a season, before the Catalyst is even open, or when you expect a specific raid boss drop in the next day or two. Charges do stack, so nothing is lost by holding one for a week.
How much rating do I need per dungeon for Keystone Master?
There is no fixed per-dungeon number because rating scales with key level and how far under the timer you finish. As a rough rule, timing every dungeon in the season pool around +10 puts most players at or past 2000. Untimed runs still count but award much less, so the fastest path is consistent timed +10s across the whole rotation rather than a few high keys.
Is Keystone Master worth chasing if I only care about tier gear?
If tier is your only goal, you do not need the achievement. Vault rewards cap out on track around the +10 mark, and that is reachable well before 2000 rating for most groups. The mount and the bragging rights are the extra you get for finishing the job across every dungeon.
That said, the players who reach Keystone Master are the ones filling their Vault with the best gear week after week, so the two goals usually end up in the same place.
If you would rather not grind the last few timers alone, PewPewShop can pair you with a vetted human player for the push: a Keystone Master Boost to 2000 rating and Breath of Blight in Season 2 starts from EUR 139.99, and single Mythic +10 timed runs to fill your Vault start from EUR 19.98. Everything is done by real players, no bots, and you keep the loot for your next Catalyst charge.
