In WoW: Forever, spell hit, melee hit and ranged hit are merged into a single hit chance stat, and the three separate critical strike chances are merged into one crit stat, per Blizzard's Deep Dive panel on September 13, 2026. A piece with +hit or +crit now works for every class and every damage type, which is the biggest itemization change from original Classic.

What Blizzard has confirmed about Forever itemization

  • One hit stat. No more separate spell hit, melee hit and ranged hit. A +hit item helps a Mage exactly as it helps a Warrior.
  • One crit stat. The three crit chances are folded together the same way.
  • Weapon skill nerfed on gear. Items that grant weapon skill give less of it than before.
  • Healing gear does damage too. Bonus healing now includes one third as much bonus damage, so healers can quest in their raid gear.
  • Caster weapons carry spell damage and healing rather than one or the other.
  • New anti-parry / anti-dodge stats reduce the chance your attacks are parried or dodged.
  • Situational items: trinkets like the Worgenbane Talisman, environment effects tied to Woodlands, Mountains and Deserts, and creature-type items such as X'caliboar.
  • Dungeon loot re-examined: every dungeon drop was reviewed, hundreds of new drops added, unique boss items are now Rare (blue) quality, and set bonuses were improved.
  • Quest rewards expanded: Mor'ladim in Duskwood now also drops the Ladimore Heirloom Ring for casters; Nesingwary's Stranglethorn chain adds the Master Hunter's Spellsword.
  • World-drop epics improved and hundreds of new rare-creature drops were added.

What Blizzard has not published: the exact rating-to-percent conversion, whether hit and crit are still flat percentages or a new rating system, the hit cap against level 63 bosses, and any loot tables. Anything you read on those points before launch is speculation.

Does spell hit still work differently from melee hit in Forever?

Not as an item stat. In original Classic, +spell hit and +melee hit were two different numbers, and a caster could not use a rogue's hit trinket. Forever collapses them into one hit chance stat that every class reads the same way. Whether the caps differ under the hood (Classic casters needed 16% against raid bosses, melee needed 9%) is not confirmed either way, so treat the old cap numbers as unverified for Forever until Blizzard or beta testing settles it.

Is spell crit and melee crit the same stat now?

Yes. Blizzard stated the three crit chances become one, exactly as with hit. This matters for hybrids the most: a Shaman or Druid swapping between melee and caster roles no longer chases two crit stats. It also changes how racials read, and Blizzard already updated some of them: Orc Axe Specialization now gives critical chance, and Dwarf Mace Specialization grants crit chance with all spells and abilities while a mace is equipped.

What does the weapon skill change actually mean?

Weapon skill items were the single most powerful stat in original Classic for melee, because racial weapon skills like Human Sword Specialization and Orc Axe Specialization pushed characters past the glancing-blow threshold. Forever hands out less weapon skill per item and moved Orc Axe Specialization to crit chance, which reads as a deliberate move away from "your race decides your best weapon." The exact new weapon skill values per item are not published.

Should I still stack hit first in Forever?

Probably, but wait for confirmed caps. Hit remained the top stat for DPS in every version of Classic because a missed attack does zero damage. With one stat feeding all classes, +hit gear will be contested by more players in a group, so expect Rare-quality dungeon drops with hit on them to be roll-heavy. Beta runs from September 17 to October 21, 2026 (capped at level 30), so level-60 hit math will only be verified by the community after launch on November 4, 2026.

Why this matters when you plan a Forever character

Original ClassicWoW: Forever
Spell hit, melee hit, ranged hit as separate statsOne hit chance stat
Spell crit, melee crit, ranged crit as separate statsOne crit chance stat
Healing gear useless for damage+healing includes 1/3 as much +damage
Weapon skill gear dominant for meleeWeapon skill items give less
Unique dungeon boss items mixed qualityUnique boss items are Rare (blue)

The practical upshot: gear choices in dungeons get simpler, off-spec gearing gets cheaper, and the old caster-versus-melee split on drops shrinks. Talents move away from +1-2% fillers at the same time, so a lot of your damage will come from item stats rather than from small talent bonuses.

If you would rather have the level-60 gearing done by someone who lives in these dungeons, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer Forever leveling and pre-raid gear packs as pre-orders until November 4, 2026 (Forever Launch-Ready Pack: 1–60 + Pre-Raid Gear + 500g from EUR 219, Drowned City Dungeon Run from EUR 16), plus coaching if you want to learn the new stat priorities hands-on. No bots, no shortcuts, just people who know the routes.
