Quick fixes, in the order to try them
The fastest fix players report is to use another mailbox. The other workarounds below are slower, so try them in this order.

- Walk to another mailbox. In most reports a second mailbox in the same city opens normally, even while the first one stays dead.
- Log out fully and log back in. One player reports that /reload does not clear it, so do a real relog.
- Leave the area and come back. Moving out of the zone and returning has worked for some players.
- Change layer. Join a group with someone on another layer. Joining doesn't move you on its own: click the arrow at the top left of the chat window to switch to the group's layer.
- File a bug report with the exact mailbox location. A forum MVP advised doing this, and specific locations are the most useful detail for Blizzard.
Where players report dead mailboxes
The reports cluster at high-traffic mailboxes in capitals and at a few busy quest hubs. The table lists the locations named in Bug Report threads from November 5–7 and the alternative players used.
| Reported location | Workaround players report |
|---|---|
| Stormwind, Trade District (by the auction house and bank) | Use the mailbox by the canals |
| Orgrimmar, near the auction house | Use a mailbox away from the auction house (confirmed by a forum Tech MVP) |
| Ironforge, by the bank | Use the mailbox at the inn |
| Thunder Bluff | Try another mailbox, relog, or leave and return |
| Kharanos, Bloodhoof Village, Auberdine, the Sepulcher | Relog, or leave the area and come back |
Is my mail lost when the mailbox won't open?
Nothing in the player reports suggests that mail gets deleted. People describe mailboxes that ignore the right-click while mail is waiting, and the same mail opens normally at a different mailbox or after a relog.
Players do report that mail from auction sales can arrive late. That is a separate issue, so a missing payout may simply be delayed rather than gone.

The cause is unconfirmed. Blizzard has not replied in the Bug Report threads, and the bug is not on the November 5 known-issues list.
Two details from the reports are useful. One multiboxer saw the bug on only one account while standing at the same mailbox. That points to something about the character's session rather than a broken mailbox for everyone. The same symptom also exists on Retail, so it may not be specific to Forever.
What if no mailbox opens at all?
Relog first, then try a mailbox in another town. If nothing opens anywhere after that, file a bug report or contact Blizzard support with your character name and the locations you tried.
If only one mailbox fails and another works, you are looking at the mailbox bug players report.
Wasn't Forever mail already broken on the beta?
It was, but in a different way. Forever has no realms and uses two-part names, and early on the beta routed mail by first name only. As a result, mail could land on the wrong character, including auction house mail.
Blizzard's beta development notes of September 24 say that surname bug was fixed. The launch-week problem is a mailbox that won't open at all, not mail going to the wrong character.
Is the auction house "item was not found" error related?
It is a separate bug in the same area of the game. Players report that buying from a price line with many identical items fails with "The item was not found", and the listing is still there after a refresh.
The workarounds players report are to refresh and buy at once, retry, use a different auctioneer, or buy in another city. In Orgrimmar, one player says Auctioneer Wabang fails while the other two auctioneers work.

Why won't my mailbox open in WoW Forever?
Since November 5, 2026, players have reported mailboxes that ignore a right-click, even with mail waiting. Most reports come from busy mailboxes near banks and auction houses in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Ironforge. Blizzard has not confirmed a cause. Another mailbox or a full relog usually gets around it.
Does /reload fix the WoW Forever mailbox bug?
One player reports that /reload does not help. Logging out completely and back in has worked for others. Walking to a different mailbox is usually faster. Leaving the area and returning, or switching layers by joining a group with someone on another layer, are other workarounds players report.
Is mail deleted when a mailbox doesn't work in WoW Forever?
Player reports don't suggest that mail is deleted. The mailbox just won't open, and the same mail can be collected at a different mailbox or after a relog. Mail from auction sales is reported to arrive late at times, so a missing payout may just be delayed.
Which mailbox should I use in Stormwind if the Trade District one is broken?
Players report that the mailbox by the canals works when the Trade District mailboxes near the auction house and bank do not. In Ironforge, the mailbox at the inn is the reported alternative. In Orgrimmar, use one away from the auction house.
How do I report the mailbox bug in WoW Forever?
Use the in-game bug report tool or the official WoW Forever Bug Report forum. Include the exact mailbox location, whether mail was waiting, and whether relogging or another mailbox fixed it. A forum MVP recommended filing bug reports because Blizzard has not yet replied in the player threads.
