The Skyborne are the new playable elven race in World of Warcraft: Forever, launching November 4, 2026. They come from Zephras Isle, a floating island with Skywall-inspired architecture, and are tied to air and the elements. They are not neutral: the Windshaper join the Horde and the High Order join the Alliance. Playing one requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher.

What the lore actually tells us so far

Blizzard has not yet published a long-form history for the Skyborne, so here is the honest split between what is confirmed and what is still open. Confirmed: they are elves, they live on Zephras Isle, and that island floats. The zone's architecture borrows from Skywall, the elemental plane of air, which is the clearest signal about their identity. Their racials point the same way: every Skyborne glides on the wind, gains haste from a wind blessing, and deals extra damage to Elementals. Mechanically and visually, this is an elven people shaped by air.

Unknown: how the Skyborne relate to night elves, high elves or blood elves, how they came to live on a floating island, and why one branch sided with the Horde while the other went to the Alliance. Forever is set after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core, so expect the Zephras Isle quests (levels 1–12) to carry the story. Anything more specific circulating online is speculation until Blizzard says otherwise.

Are the Skyborne a neutral race like Pandaren?

No. The Skyborne are split at character creation: the Windshaper are Horde and the High Order are Alliance. Each side gets one extra racial on top of the three shared ones — Skysight for Windshaper, Read Ley Line for High Order — and one extra class: Horde Skyborne can be Shaman, Alliance Skyborne can be Mage.

What do the Skyborne racials do in practice?

Walk on Air is a 10-second downward glide, which in a game with no flying mounts and no level scaling is a real travel and escape tool. Wind Blessed gives +1% haste, Elemental Insight adds +5% damage against Elementals. The Horde bonus, +10% run speed from Skysight, is the one most players will feel every minute outdoors. These numbers are as reported by Wowhead from BlizzCon 2026 and could still change during beta.

Can I play a Skyborne without buying anything?

Forever itself is included with an active WoW subscription or Game Time — no separate game purchase. The Skyborne race is the exception: it requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack (€29.99 in the EU shop) or one of the higher packs. The Heroic Pack also includes name reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount, cosmetics and one Invite-A-Friend launch code. Beta access needs the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.

Where do the Skyborne go after Zephras Isle?

Zephras Isle covers levels 1 to 12. After that, a Skyborne joins the normal Forever leveling path for their faction, with the new Riverglades zone in the Eastern Kingdoms at levels 30–45 and Mount Hyjal as the new endgame zone. The first raids — Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair — open December 9, 2026 per Blizzard's roadmap.
